The final ATP Masters 1000 event of the season takes place in Paris this week and there is an open feel to the draw.
The ATP Finals in Turin are just around the corner and that means there are crucial ranking points up for grabs in this event in Paris.
Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz, Alex Zverev and Daniil Medvedev are already guaranteed spots in the event, but plenty of other players are in contention, including Novak Djokovic.
But Djokovic, who won the Paris Masters in 2023, will not feature in this year’s competition and is therefore at risk of missing the ATP Finals.
That opens the door to a host of players who will be throwing everything they have at this ATP Masters 1000 event in the hopes of featuring in Turin in November.
Rolex Masters – Dimitrov can prove he is not past his best
Among those looking to feature in Turin is Grigor Dimitrov, who could be set for a strong showing in the Paris Masters.
Dimitrov was runner-up to Djokovic in the event in the French capital last year and his strength on hard courts make him a strong contender once again.
The 33-year-old from Bulgaria was unimpressive at the recent Vienna Open, but was Stockholm Open runner-up earlier this month and also reached the quarter-finals of the US Open on the harder surface earlier this year.
He has recorded 43 wins in 59 matches on the ATP tour this year and he will be eager to show he is not past his best.
The top half of the Paris Masters looks the more testing, with top seed Sinner joined by Taylor Fritz, Andrey Rublev, Holger Rune, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Zverev, so going for a player in the bottom half of the draw makes sense.
That only enhances the appeal about Dimitrov, who could go the distance in the Paris Masters.
Rolex Masters – Paul worth monitoring in open Paris draw
Another player from the bottom half of the draw in with a shout is American Tommy Paul.
Like Dimitrov, Paul underwhelmed in Vienna, but he beat the Bulgarian in the final of the Stockholm Open before that and is also handy on the harder surface.
He went well at the US Open this year before running into Sinner in the last-16 and he is also in the hunt for a place in the ATP Finals, even if his hopes are slim.
Paul is seeded 11th in France and has a relatively soft opener against the unseeded Adrian Mannarino, so he could also give punters a run for their money in this ATP Masters 1000 event.
