Andy Schooler’s tennis match bets column is back in its usual Monday Tennis Tips with three first-round picks for this week’s ATP tournaments.
Monday Tennis Tips: October 13th 2025
Djere has lost five in a row heading into this match, the last three all against players ranked outside the top 150. His last win came back during the grasscourt season in Mallorca. As for Shevchenko, he’s got the home advantage this week, something he made the most of last year here with a run to the quarter-finals.
Monday Tennis Tips: Djere v Shevchenko
I think he’ll be more atuned to the altitude conditions, which make the balls fly through the air that bit quicker. And it’s notable that he reached the last four in fast conditions in Chengdu recently. The home hope has been backed into 1.65 which is about as low as I’d go in terms of putting someone up on these pages. You could push that to 1.76 by backing Shevchenko on the game handicap, giving up 1.5 games.
Monday Tennis Tips: Nakashima v Medjedovic
Medjedovic showed his propensity for indoor conditions earlier in the season when he made the Marseille final at a big price. The Serb also won a Challenger Tour title in Portugal and beat Holger Rune in Davis Cup. In addition, he defeated Nakashima indoors in Belgrade last November.
Admittedly, he was suffering with foot blisters last time out in Shanghai but it should also be noted that at the time of his retirement, Medjedovic was a set up on the eventual runner-up, Arthur Rinderknech. In short, there’s plenty to like about Medjedovic in Almaty where the altitude will give his big serve that extra boost. Nakashima is also well versed in holding serve so it wouldn’t surprise me were this to go over 23.5 games which is a 1.9 shot. However, I’ll keep things simple and back the underdog to land the spoils.
Monday Tennis Tips: Bergs v Collignon
Collignon looks a decent price in this all-Belgian battle in Brussels. He’s impressed on the Challenger Tour this season, particularly indoors, winning in Pau at the start of the year and also making another final. More recently, he’s beaten top-20 stars Casper Ruud a the US Open and Alex de Minaur in the Davis Cup to really translate his Challenger success to main-tour level.
Importantly, he’s also bedded in on indoor courts having made a final and semi-final at Challenger events in France in the last few weeks. Bergs played some good tennis in Shanghai recently but he’s now got to adapt from that outdoor heat and humidity to considerably different conditions back in Europe – and pretty quickly. He was still in China on Thursday evening. Take Collignon for the upset at 2.15.
