Futureproof: Andy Schooler’s Huge Tennis Tips for 2025 and Beyond

Hardcourt Season

In his latest Futureproof column, tennis expert Andy Schooler reflects on 2024 and picks out a huge tennis tips for Wimbledon 2025.

Futureproof: Andy Schooler’s Huge Tennis Tips for 2025 and Beyond

Jannik Sinner wrapped up the 2024 tennis season by leading Italy to Davis Cup glory – all rather fitting given he was the star of the show this year. The famously short off-season has now begun – some players will head for the beach before throwing themselves into a few weeks of brutal training in a bid to hit the ground running in 2025. The new campaign actually starts on December 27 with the United Cup.

Huge Tennis Tips for 2025: ATP Stars

I’ll be looking more closely at players to watch in 2025 in the coming weeks but in this column, let’s take a look at the main ATP stars of 2024 and what, potentially lies ahead for them next season…

Huge Tennis Tips for 2025: Jannik Sinner

A 73-6 win-loss record in 2024 is one of the great seasons and Sinner ends the year as clearly the best player in the world. But it is far from certain he will still be in that position in 12 months’ time. The Italian remains vulnerable off the hardcourts – 16 of his 18 career titles have come on that surface. His only clay title is a 250 one, gained in 2022. In addition, his controversial doping case will be back in focus soon thanks to WADA, who are seeking a ban, something which remains a possibility. Backing Sinner in any ante-post market right now certainly carries risk.

Huge Tennis Tips for 2025: Carlos Alcaraz

Few players can have won two Grand Slam titles in the same season yet finished the year as world number three, but that is the case with Alcaraz, who lacked Sinner’s consistency, although he did enjoy the better of their matches. The Spaniard’s exceptional achievement of winning Roland Garros and Wimbledon back to back feels rather overlooked following Sinner’s impressive end to the campaign but it’s significant that Alcaraz is currently favourite for both titles in 2025.

Huge Tennis Tips for 2025: Novak Djokovic

The Serb achieved his season’s goal – winning the Olympics – but, frankly, not a lot else. He failed to add to his haul of 24 Grand Slam titles and it should not be forgotten how off the pace he looked at times in 2024. The hiring of Andy Murray to his coaching team suggests the fire still burns bright in the former world number one though. He’s vowed to play in the opening week of 2025, ahead of his favourite tournament, the Australian Open. It will certainly be intriguing to see how he fares in the early weeks of 2025 and it’s worth noting that Kwiff have him as second favourite in Melbourne.

Huge Tennis Tips for 2025: Alex Zverev

The three players already mentioned won the five biggest titles between them in 2024 yet Zverev finishes the year as world number two. That is not insignificant. Still, is he a likely Grand Slam winner in 2025? The bookies don’t think so with Zverev’s ante-post odds considerably longer than the aforementioned trio.

The German played really well towards the end of the season yet a lack of self belief appears to be an issue. Zverev was too passive in several big matches in 2024 – think the French Open final and the US Open quarter-final against Taylor Fritz – and will need to get over that mental block if he’s to deliver that big prize. He is 6.9 to go one better at the 2025 French Open, an event at which he’s won 21 of his last 25 matches.

Huge Tennis Tips for 2025: Ante-post Angle

As already written, I’ll look ahead to the 2025 campaign in the coming weeks but one price worth mentioning at this stage is the 115 on offer about Arthur Fils winning Wimbledon. The 20-year-old Frenchman is the youngest player in the world’s top 40, rising to 20th in the rankings in 2024. I actually felt Fils might have finished a little higher than he did given the talent and weapons at his disposal, but I remain convinced he’s going higher.

He made the last 16 in SW19 back in July, beating Hubert Hurkacz before losing to Alex de Minaur, so clearly has the ability to play on a surface which troubles many of his contemporaries. A good start to the year would see this price come in, of that I’m sure.

Huge Tennis Tips for 2025: Indoor Review

As ever, let’s finish with a quick review of the players I mentioned in the previous Futureproof column (https://community.kwiff.com/sports/tennis/tennis-indoor-season-2024/).

Ugo Humbert – Certainly lived up to my billing but making the final of the Paris Masters. If you backed him each way that week, you’d have made a handsome profit.

Grigor Dimitrov – I highlighted his impressive record in Stockholm and he again went well in the Swedish capital, albeit the Bulgarian was beaten in the final.

Jannik Sinner – The Italian’s impressive indoor record was noted and it has got considerably better since. The ATP Finals and Davis Cup have both seen been won with Sinner going 13-0 indoors over the course of the season.

Lorenzo Musetti – Was nominated as a potential fade indoors. That opinion was justified as the top-20 star went only 2-3 during the autumn indoor swing.
