After a thrilling four days at The Open Championship last week, there is a very different test facing those at The 3M Open and we have 3 x PGA Tour Golf Tips if your read on below.
PGA Tour Golf Tips: 3M Open 2024
The wind and rain of Troon will be replaced by sunshine and humidity, with the TPC Twin Cities in Minnesota hosting this week’s tournament. With many of the big names taking a break after the year’s final Major, there will be a chance for less-regular winners to potentially pick up a PGA title and a big chunk of the $8.1million prize fund.
PGA Tour Golf Tips: Terrific Theegala
A missed cut at The Open may not seem ideal preparation for this week’s event, but Sahith Theegala looks to be in a good position to bounce back. The 26-year-old paid the penalty for being in the wrong half of the draw at Royal Troon, with adverse weather playing a big part in him missing the weekend. Prior to that missed cut, Theegala had finished T4 at the Scottish Open, carding rounds of 66-65-66-69, highlighting his recent good form.
The Californian is the highest ranked player in Minnesota this week, with only two men in the field currently inside the top-20 of the world rankings. One thing that plays into Theegala’s hands is the length of TPC Twin Cities, which is in the top half of PGA Tour venues for yardage. Measuring at 7,431 yards, the big hitters should have an advantage this week and Theegala ranks sixth in the Longest Drive stats.
PGA Tour Golf Tips: Emerging Emiliano
One man who has a very good record at this week’s course and who is a big price to lift the trophy on Sunday, is Emiliano Grillo. The Argentinian was T2 at the 2022 3M Open, when he finished just three shots behind the eventual winner – Tony Finau.
He backed that up with another top-10 finish at last year’s event, finishing on 14-under-par following a final round 66. After failing to make the cut at the Scottish Open earlier this month, Grillo battled through the tough conditions at Troon to qualify for the weekend. The South American is currently 66th in the FedEx Cup standings, which is just inside the play-off target of 70, and will feel a big week could help him guarantee a spot.
PGA Tour Golf Tips: Super Spaun
After missing the cut in four of five events between the end of April and early June, J.J Spaun has shown some good signs of late. A T10 spot at the Rocket Mortgage Classic was his first top-10 of the season and he followed that up with a T23 finish at the John Deere Classic at the start of July.
Rounds of 69-67-70-70 saw him finish T45 at the ISCO Championship and then the man from Los Angeles secured another top-30 finish at last week’s Barracuda Championship. Spaun will also have happy memories of this week’s event, after a T37 spot last year which included an opening round 66.
