Men’s Olympic Golf 2024: Sensational Swedes Tipped for Paris Success

Men's Olympic Golf

The experts from The Racing Post have tipped up a host of winners throughout the month of July and are back to tackle the Men’s Olympic Golf, which starts on Thursday.

Men’s Olympic Golf 2024: Le Golf National

Golf’s four majors are done for 2024 but the prize of winning Olympic gold has ensured many of the game’s top stars will be teeing it up in Paris. Le Golf National, the stage for Europe’s stunning Ryder Cup triumph over Team USA in 2018, hosts the third running of the men’s Olympic golf competition since the event was reintroduced in Rio eight years ago.

Xander Schauffele is the defending Men’s Olympic Golf champion having won gold in Tokyo and is the man in form following his Open Championship victory at Royal Troon, his second major triumph in a memorable year. Schauffele is 6.15 to win gold again behind compatriot Scottie Scheffler (4.45) though Le Golf National, as the home course of the annual French Open, is a regular stop-off for members of the DP World Tour who may think they have an edge over the North Americans stars.

Men’s Olympic Golf: Nifty Noren

Sixty players from 32 countries are going for gold in the 72-hole strokeplay event at Le Golf National, a 7,247-yard par-71 course with a premium on accuracy. When Alex Noren won the French Open on this layout in 2018 he was ranked in the top 10 for fairways found and also the top 10 in scrambling. And having that ability to get up and down when greens are missed will be critical because there are a stack of awkward second shots to be had.

The Swede and world No.51 has just had a week off after an excellent fortnight in Scotland with a T10 at the Scottish Open followed by a T13 at The Open. Noren had enjoyed five top-15s before that, including a third place at the Byron Nelson, and his good memories of Le Golf National don’t just arise from Tour glory. He also starred there for Europe in the Ryder Cup, winning two points out of three, including a singles success over Bryson Dechambeau. He looks a big price at 35.00.

Men’s Olympic Golf: Might Mori

Scheffler and Shauffele head the betting but there are two other Americans in the field – and one of them, Collin Morikawa, has all the attributes to go well. The 11.30 chance, fourth in Tokyo, has had a winless year – though so did Justin Rose and Schauffele in the years they won gold – but has enjoyed a string of good runs in the bigger events. The world No.6 was third at the Masters, fourth at the USPGA and has enjoyed three top-five runs since then. His unerring accuracy is his major strength so Le Golf National really ought to suit him down to the ground.

Men’s Olympic Golf: Bank on Guido

The third choice, and definite each-way material, is Italy’s Guide Migliozzi, the French Open winner on this track in 2022, and up for grabs at an eyebrow-raising 78.00. Migliozzi is having a great year having won the KLM Open and finishing second in the China Open, while his T31 at The Open, where he shot 71-71 over the weekend, was commendable. He’s streaky and comes with a bag-load of risk, but when he’s hot he sizzles and in a field of just 60 that’s a nice price.
