With the LIV Golf season less than three months away, there is growing speculation over the latest players to join the PIF-financed Tour.
LIV Golf: Huge Potential Defectors for 2025 Season
Despite finishing in the ‘relegation zone’ last time out, Bubba Watson and Branden Grace have signed new LIV contracts to extend their time on the Tour. Which new names though might be joining the likes of Jon Rahm, Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka ahead of the opening tournament on April 4th.
LIV Golf: McKibbin Tipped for Success
Tom McKibbin is one of the hot young prospects in European golf, moving into the top-120 players in the world after a successful time on the DP World Tour. The Northern Irishman won his first professional tournament in June 2023, when collecting the Porsche European Open title in Germany. McKibbin might have failed to add to that title in 2024, but having finished inside the top-20 in the Race to Dubai standings, he collected a PGA Tour card for this year.
The 22-year-old, who plays at Rory McIlroy’s home club of Holywood, might reject the chance to move across the pond to instead join LIV. The latest reports suggest McKibbin will receive £4million up front if he agrees to switch Tours, although he is yet to comment on the claims. He was part of GB and Ireland at the Team Cup and was partnered on Day One by Tyrrell Hatton, who he might be joining in the Legion XIII team, which also includes Rahm.
LIV Golf: Possible Defectors 2025
The last spot in Legion XIII is the only official spot left for 2025, but that doesn’t mean that there won’t be more new faces. PGA Tour stars Rickie Fowler and Wyndham Clark were among the names strongly linked with LIV defections in 2024. Fowler has rejected talk that he is set to move in 2025 while Clark, although admitting to LIV talks, has also decided to stay put for now.
LIV Golf: Global Appeal
Hideki Matsuyama is another player who has been touted as a target for the LIV hierarchy, as they look to increase the global appeal of their format. Having a big-name Japanese player would certainly help their worldwide reach, but Matsuyama has insisted that he is “fully committed” to the PGA Tour. There have been two new faces added to the LIV roster this season, with Ben Campbell and Frederik Kjettrup committing to contracts.
New Zealander Campbell played in one LIV tournament last year, as a replacement for the injured Cameron Smith. The former Asian Tour player, who is now 33, will be part of the Range Goats. Dane Frederik Kjettrup is joining the Cleeks team, who are captained by former Ryder Cup star Martin Kaymer. Will there be any more big names additions to the opening LIV Miami tournament of the 2025 campaign?
