Alfred Dunhill Links Championship 2024: Expert Golf Tips

Alfred Dunhill Links Championship 2024

The DP World Tour moves to Scotland this week, where Jon Rahm and Rory McIlroy will be among the field trying to win the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship 2024, the only pro-am on the circuit. Read our expert below ahead of this week’s tour of Scotland’s premier links golf courses.

The pair look set to go off as the favourites for the three-course tournament which takes in rounds at Kingsbarns, Open Championship venue Carnoustie and the Home of Golf, the Old Course at St Andrews.

Former US Open champion Matt Fitzpatrick will defend his title this week, with strong challenges also expected from two-time winner Tyrrell Hatton and five-time Major champion Brooks Koepka.

Alfred Dunhill Links Championship 2024: Tough Tyrrell

While Rahm won the LIV Individual Championship in his first season on the breakaway tour, Hatton also made great strides in his first campaign on that circuit, finishing in the top four in four of his final five outings, including a win in Nashville. The Englishman showed the strength of his form last week at the Spanish Open where he went in search of valuable world ranking points and returned from Madrid having finished tenth.

But it is his pedigree in this tournament that is particularly attractive this week. Hatton won the prize in both 2016 and 2017 and his form figures of 3-15-2-7 in his subsequent four visits show just how much he loves the links challenge. He is completely at home in this format and it would be a big surprise if at 9.00, Hatton did not make a big push for more Dunhill glory.

Alfred Dunhill Links Championship 2024: Bouncing Bobby

Robert MacIntyre’s best finish in four Dunhill efforts was the 20th he posted in 2022, but he has come on leaps and bounds since then and looks a live contender this week. The Scot, who is available at 19.50, claimed his first PGA Tour victory when he triumphed at the Canadian Open in June and he was a popular winner of the Scottish Open a month later, 12 months after he had been runner-up.

Making the Tour Championship was a great achievement and plainly boosted his confidence. He was subsequently fifth on another links test in the Irish Open at Royal County Down and then 12th at the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth, so a strong challenge is expected.

Alfred Dunhill Links Championship 2024: Fiery Forrest

Grant Forrest, at 51.00, is another home player who can make his presence felt at the top of the leaderboard. He has finished 10th in this tournament in the last two years and his recent form has been strong. Forrest was tied for fifth at the Irish Open after firing a closing 66 and was then one of a cluster of players tied for third at last week’s Spanish Open, where his Sunday 64 was the best round of the day, meaning his confidence should be sky high.
