PDC World Darts Betting: Top Picks and Predictions

Alexandra Palace is braced for an extravaganza of festive darts when the PDC World Championship bursts into life on Sunday.

Luke Humphries is back to defend the title he won when beating Luke Littler in the final 12 months ago, but the Nuke heads the market this year.

The 17-year-old is the 2.6  favourite as he looks to land the first senior world title of his career, while Cool Hand Luke is next in the betting at 3.6

It’s difficult to doubt the tournament-winning credentials of the Lukes, but they have been housed in the same half of the draw so there is no possibility of a repeat of last season’s final.

There are a whole host of top-level challengers in the field and there could be some good value bets away from Littler and Humphries in the World Darts Betting.

World Darts Betting Tip 1: Van Gerwen to win – @ 9.25

Michael van Gerwen was once the dominant force in darts, but the three-time world champion is only fourth-favourite to land his fourth World Championship title.

Clearly, MVG’s level hasn’t been as consistently strong as that of Littler, Humphries or Gary Anderson this season, but there have been some excellent efforts and the Dutchman looks to have been dismissed a little too lightly.

The Green Machine has made the final of the Masters and World Matchplay this term and it was only last season that Mighty Mike took the World Series and Premier League crowns, so Van Gerwen is clearly still capable of top-level performances.

The Green Machine is heading for a potential fourth-round clash with Anderson, and while that is no easy task, Van Gerwen would only be a slight outsider in that contest at worst. In any case, MVG’s path to the last 16 looks far more straightforward.

A second-round tie against Jim Long or James Hurrell is unlikely to trouble MVG and Brendan Dolan is the top-ranked player Mighty Mike can face in round three.

At the same time, Anderson is in line for a third-round game against the explosive Ross Smith and that is likely to be far more demanding.

Van Gerwen is available at a bigger price than the Flying Scotsman on the outright market and that looks to underplay MVG’s chances.

World Darts Betting Tip 2: Chris Dobey to win quarter three @ 5.4

Former world champion Michael Smith heads the betting in quarter three and Bully Boys looks clearly the most vulnerable jolly across the four sections.

There is no shortage of challengers to the St Helen’s arrowsmith and chief of those looks to be Chris Dobey.

No player won more Players Championship events than the three Hollywood managed this season. The Bedlington boy has reached back-to-back Alexandra Palace quarter-finals and the 34-year-old is a seriously talented performer.

Only Anderson is averaging more than Dobey on the Pro Tour this season and there is no reason to doubt the former Masters champion transferring that form to the Ally Pally stage.
