Players Championship Darts: 18 and 19 Powerful Preview, August 2024

Players Championship Darts

Thee Players Championship Darts events held in 2024, and it’s a measure of the competitiveness of the tour that those tournaments have produced 15 different winners.  Who else will claim success this week, as the world’s best tungsten ticklers descend on Milton Keynes for events 18 and 19 later this week.

Players Championship Darts: Milton Keynes

Luke Littler is the only arrowsmith to have claimed two Player Championship titles this season, having won event 1 and 15, but the Nuke is among a whole host of top performers, who will be absent for Tuesday and Wednesday’s Players Championship double-header.

Littler, Gary Anderson, Nathan Aspinall, Rob Cross, Luke Humphries, Ronny Huybrechts, Jacques Labre, Adrian Lewis, Haupai Puha, Michael Smith, Adam Smith-Neale, Leighton Bennett and Callan Rydz are tour cards holders who won’t be making an appearance at The Marshall Arena for Players Championship 18 & 19.

Danny Jansen, Christian Kist, Andy Boulton, Connor Scutt, Wesley Plaisier, John Henderson, Stefan Bellmont, Richie Burnett, Lee Cocks, Justin Hood, Jamie Atkins, Kai Gotthardt and Cam Crabtree (PC18 only) will fill the 128-player fields in Milton Keynes and here is an idea of what to expect at the Marshall Arena.

Players Championship Darts: Josh Ready To Rock

Josh Rock won the most recent Players Championship event, taking down the 17th tournament of the campaign in Milton Keynes earlier this month.  The Northern Irish arrowsmith got the better of Joe Cullen in that final, having beaten the free-scoring Ross Smith in the semi-finals.

Rocky also made the final of the Players Championship 7 event and the 23-year-old took down the Dutch Darts Championship crown in May.  Rock is building a consistent and high-level profile in the early stages of his career and another big run is expected.

Players Championship Darts: Nifty Nijman

Wessel Nijman looks a player full of talent and the 24-year-old produced some seriously eye-catching performances in July’s Players Championship 15 event.  The Dutchman looked almost unbeatable when getting the better of top PDC performers Gary Anderson and Damon Heta in the quarter-finals and semi-finals of the competition and it took a blistering performance from Luke Littler to down the Uitgeest thrower.

Nijman may need to add a little more consistency to his game, but his ceiling performance level is seriously high, and an on-song Dutchman, will be a major threat in Milton Keynes.

Menzies could have the measure of his opponents

Reliability and consistency wouldn’t have been words associated with Cameron Menzies, but the Scot appears a far more measured and rejuvenated performer this season and that has reaped the rewards.  Cammy is inside the top-20 on the Pro Tour averages this season and the Glasgow thrower has been a constant threat in Players Championship events.

The 35-year-old has reached three quarter-finals, and one semi-final on the floor this term, and there have been some huge performances.  Cammy is another in-form arrowsmith worth considering in Milton Keynes this week.

Other players who have already tasted success at this level year include the likes of veterans Dave Chisnall, Ryan Searle, Damon Heta and Raymond Van Barneveld. Any of these have the potential to claim further silverware with a good run in Milton Keynes.
