The German Darts Championship 2024 heads to Hildesheim for event nine of the series and a total of 48 arrowsmiths will battle it out for the £30,000 first prize and the latest Euro Tour trophy. Home hero Ricardo Pietreczko will be back to defend the crown he won when beating Peter Wright last year, while compatriot Martin Schindler will be hoping to shine in Germany.
The three-day event gets underway on Friday, August 30th and top performers Luke Littler, Michael van Gerwen, Michael Smith and Gary Anderson will have eyes on the top prize.
German Darts Championship 2024: Flying Scotsman
Friday’s first-round will see the 16 Order of Merit qualifiers battle 16 winners from the various qualifying tournaments for a place in the second round, where the top-16 seeded players join the fun and the Hildesheim event could go to a big-hitting performer.
Luke Littler is the market leader in Germany and, while the Nuke’s chances have to be respected, it appears a tricky route to the latter stages of the event and the 17-year-old can be opposed. Gary Anderson has contested only two European Tour events this season, but the Flying Scotsman took down the European Darts Grand Prix title and the two-time world champion looks set to strike again.
Anderson is the top performer in terms of averages on the Pro Tour this season and the Scot is putting up an incredible 111.67 first-nine score over the 47 matches he has contested this term. That level of darts is almost impossible to stop and the titles are surely going to flow for Anderson. He is housed in the opposite half of the draw to tournament favourite Littler and the 53-year-old looks a value each-way alternative.
German Darts Championship 2024: Hollywood HotShot
Chris Dobey will be full of confidence after his recent Players Championship victory and Hollywood can star again in Germany. The Bedlington arrowsmith is behind only Anderson on the Pro Tour averages this term and has the scoring power and ability to add more titles to last season’s Masters success. Dobey has won twice on the Pro Tour this season, the 34-year-old is up to number 13 on the rankings and the peak level of Hollywood’s game is above many of his rivals.
Gerwyn Price, Josh Rock and Gian van Veen are the seeded players housed in Dobey’s quarter of the draw and, although that trio could carry a threat, Hollywood arrives in excellent form and there is enough in the price to play the Bedlington man on the outright market. Dobey is away from Littler in the bottom half of the draw and an each-way play on the in-form former Masters champion could pay dividends in Hildesheim.
