Dave Chisnall: World Matchplay 2025 Disappointment

It was disappointing again this week – and I know I’m starting to sound like a broken record now but it was a case of what might have been with more missed doubles costing us against Mike de Decker.

Dave Chisnall: Missed Doubles

I missed tops for a 100 checkout, and two more at tops to go 8-6 up. Mike obviously took that leg, and won with the throw to go 8-7 up. It’s a worn out phrase now but darts is a ruthless sport, and things can change in an instant. If I win the leg and go 8-6 up I don’t think I lose the game. But if my aunty had you know whats, she’d be my uncle!

The annoying thing is, I thought Mike played well against me, and then  didn’t turn up against Johnny (Clayton) in the next game. That probably sums up my luck this season! You need the rub of the green – especially early doors – in these tournaments sometimes and I’ve not had much to go at this season.

The furthest I’ve advanced is getting to the semis of a Pro Tour where I lost the deciding leg against Steve (Bunting) – despite throwing 2 x 180s in. He took out 81 for an 11-dart leg and sometimes you’re just unlucky to bump into the man and not the board.

Dave Chisnall: Taking the Positives

The good thing is that I actually felt alright on stage, despite being a bit apprehensive beforehand. Previous trips to  The Winter Gardens haven’t gone to play and due to the poor results but I felt really good up there. The crowd always helps and they were really behind me, it’s just frustrating I couldn’t get over the line for them.

Dave Chisnall: Back to Blackpool

We’ll keep going though, and I’m already looking forward to next week’s Pro Tour in Hildesheim. I won over there last year, so hopefully can play well again. August starts quiet but there’s more Pro Tour action in Leicester, and then I’m defending my Flanders Darts Trophy at the end of the month.

I’m in Blackpool doing some bits and pieces at The Winter Gardens this evening and I’m looking forward to tonight’s action. Luke (Littler) will fancy his chances of a first World Matchplay Title – and most likely the first of many! Andrew is a good player though, and won’t let him have it all his own way. In the other game, Gezzy is playing darts at the minute and I’d have him as favourite over
