Chizzy is back in mainland Europe ahead of two days of Players Championship action in Hildesheim; read Dave Chisnall’s latest diary exclusively for kwiff.
Dave Chisnall: Heading to Hildesheim
May is a very busy month for us, and probably give us the best opportunity to date to try and bank a few quid and move up the Order of Merit. There are 3 x Euro Tour events and 3 x Players Championship double headers so fingers crossed we can find a bit of form to take us into the summer.
April was pretty disappointing overall with just two competitive wins, on the Euro Tour in Sindelfingen, before going out to Gezzy, and on The Pro Tour last week in Leicester before then going out in the second round to Max Hopp.
I’m yet to have a proper run together this year, apart from going to the last four and last eight in a couple of Pro Tour events but feel something decent this week could spark my season into life.
Dave Chisnall: Happy Memories
I’ve got good memories of Hildesheim too, I got to the final of the first of two events here last year when losing to Krzysztof Ratajski 8-4 in the final. He played really well in the final too, averaging 102 and was a deserving winner. The year before I won another Pro Tour event here, beating Dirk van Duijvenbode 8-6 in the final and really getting my season going.
To save all the faffing about with travel I’ll be staying here in Hildesheim until Thursday and head straight to the Euro Tour this weekend in Austria. Providing the doubles behave themselves then there’s a good chance we can make some inroads into going back up the table and challenging for a place in the top 16 again.
Dave Chisnall: Woeful Reds
Yesterday was not a good watch against Manchester United, and we were lucky to get back to 2-2 after playing shocking and going two down before half-time. You can make excuses and say there’s no attackers at the minute, with no Salah, Ekitike and Isak but Christ they were poor and a point would have probably just papered over the cracks.
You’ve got to stick with the manager though – we don’t sack folk as easily as other clubs and he’s got the unenviable task of having to re-build a new squad as most of the side that did so well under Jurgen Klopp are gone or moved on. With Robbo and Mo going in the summer it does really feel an end of an era. Just fingers crossed it doesn’t end up as bad as United post-Fergie.. Every cloud!
