I’m looking for the Worlds starting this weekend, and will have on in my man-cave whilst preparations start for this year’s trip to Ally Pally. I’ve got all my Christmas shopping done and I’ve got no more exhibitions lined up this year – it’s all about the Worlds.
Dave Chisnall: Man Flu 2024
The timing has been a bit off because if you remember last year I got a horrendous bout of the flu just before my Quarter-Final match against eventual World Champion Luke Humphries. I’m not using it as an excuse or anything – not in the slightest – it’s jut that I always get some kind of lurgy around Christmas time and it just happened to coincide with that match.

I was on the train up north the day after and some old dear on the train, which was absolutely packed that day, told me I looked terrible and offered me some paracetamol. I remember thinking, thanks love! But it was a sweet gesture, and I’d already taken some that morning.
Well that man-flu is back this week and I’m full of it at the minute. When I had it last year it went on for like 2-3 weeks after, so I’m hoping this is just a bit of a sore throat but it’s not great at the minute. I am still on the practice board, I had a chuck this morning, and felt in good nick. The form is still there, it’s about getting me to Alexandra Palace in one piece come 10 days time.

Rather than sat watching it, I prefer to practice and have it on in the background. So you’re more listening to it than actually watching and where you realise how great some of the commentators are. The combination of Sid and Johnny Gwynne remains probably the greatest ever but Wayne Mardell and Rod Studd are different class together, so I hope to have them doing a few games in the early rounds.

The draw is pretty brutal down my quarter, but if you’re going to become World Champion then there are no easy games. It looks like I’ll need to beat either Gary Anderson or Michael Van Gerwen potentially to get to the semi-finals and then it’s a guess-up to who is left. Regardless, all players here are capable of doing the business, otherwise they wouldn’t be here in the first place!
