1:50 York – Sky Bet Mile Handicap
I’m very keen on Jeddaal here, I thought the 12s and 14s around earlier in the week looked big, and I’d have him a lot nearer the front of the market than that.
He won with a bit in hand on good to soft ground at Chester two starts ago, beating Do Bronxs, and after a short break reappeared at Thirsk at the start of this month, finishing a close fourth, beaten a length. He did a lot of work on the front end that day and only lost out on second very late in the piece, a very good effort in the circumstances, and it might well be he needed the run after that break too. Bottom line, he won’t mind Thursday’s rain, is still unexposed and still looks nicely handicapped on his defeat of Red Spells Danger at Catterick last year.
3:35 York – Nunthorpe Stakes 5f
I’ve been banging the drum for Jm Jungle this week, not because he’s the best horse in the race today, but he’ll handle conditions well and after two solid efforts here at York when half a length behind Redorange, and at Goodwood when 2½ lengths behind American Affair, I could see him running a big race. Under normal circumstances he would not be able to get competitive at G1 level (although he did win at G2 at his peak) but this won’t be normal circumstances, it’s likely to be soft ground and that levels the playing field up a bit. On goes some headgear too, the Quinns trying him in blinkers (3-22 last two years, another five placed, but the winners have been double-figure prices so there’s a healthy level-stakes profit) which could again sharpen him up a touch.
4:10 York – Assured Data Protection Handicap 1m4f
I’ve ended up with last year’s fourth Zanndabad, with Jamie Spencer on board, something that is likely to have me shouting at the telly late on. He won’t mind the ground, goes on pretty much anything, and is 3lb lower than he was last year. He’s had a break since his eighth in the Northumberland Plate, and is pretty much guaranteed to be staying on strongly in the closing stages. Looks a moral for the frame.
5:20 York – Sky Bet EBF Fillies Handicap 1m2½f
Bint Al Daar was second to Canoodled in this two years ago and had her inexperienced 7lb claimer got busy on her earlier last year, she might have been in the first five, last and detached with 3f to go, she ran on strongly late; she would have badly needed her run at Ascot last time after four months off and it looks like nothing more than a run to ready her for another crack at this. She’ll go on the ground – placed twice on heavy, she can’t have it deep enough – and although the in is probably beyond her, another minor placing isn’t beyond the realms of possibility. Back her each-way with the extra places.
