York Ebor Day 2025: Dave Massey’s Big Day Preview

York Ebor 2025: Daquiri Bay (2.25)

Daiquiri Bay gets the trip he’s been crying out for all season, and I’m hoping that sees him finally start to fulfil his potential. I’ve stuck with him since Chester this season and he’s done nothing to dissuade me that he’s a stayer in three further starts, and that includes two cracks at ten furlongs, which is clearly far too short. In between those efforts he ran an eyecatching eighth in the King George V Stakes at Royal Ascot, coming from the back to run on strongly for eighth behind Merchant, form that’s working out really well. I’ll be very disappointed if he doesn’t run a big race here.

York Ebor Day 2025: Ten Bob Tony (3:00)

If there’s one at a bigger price, well Ten Bob Tony hasn’t had the chance to show his improved John O’Gaunt win over Kinross wasn’t a fluke yet, and having been given a break since then looks a smart move, as he seems to show his best form after a break. Anything trained by Ed Walker this year has to be worth a second look and these conditions look ideal.

York Ebor Day 2025: Onesmoothoperator (3.35)

I don’t think Onesmoothoperator can win this off his current mark, which is probably about three or four pounds too high, but if we’re looking for something to his the first six at a big price, look no further; seventh in the race last year, running on well late after being given an awful lot to do, he went out to Australia and won his first race on turf at Geelong later in the season, which earned him a crack at the Melbourne Cup, in which he was beaten under six lengths and was far from disgraced.

This season, he’s run two very solid races, eighth in the Northumberland Plate under a welter burden of 9-12, then chanced his arm against Al Qareem in the John Smith’s Silver Cup where he paid the price late on for trying to throw down a challenge two furlongs out. Both those runs come out well on the figures and he’s got definite place chances if he can repeat the dose.
