York Ebor 2025: Dave Massey’s Huge Day 3 Preview
York Ebor 2025: Champagne Prince (1.50)
It’s assumed that Champagne Prince (1.50) is better on the all-weather than he is on turf and a quick look at his record – 0-7 on the grass, just the one placing to show for it, seems to back that up, but his sixth in the Copper Horse Handicap at Royal Ascot isn’t so far behind some of his best form, and a drop back to 1m4f, plus the fact he’s been gelded since a dreadful effort at Newmarket last time, make him of some interest. As does the fact he’s probably the only pace angle in the race – if David Egan fancies making it at his own pace, that would increase his chance too.
York Ebor 2025: Jm Jungle (3:35)
Jm Jungle (3.35) took his form to a new level when winning the King George Qatar Stakes at Goodwood and whilst that track suits him well, so too does York, with a win and seven places from 11 runs at the track. It’s easy to assume Goodwood was a bit of a fluke but he’s in the form of his life at present and it could just be he’s improving at the age of five (he certainly wouldn’t be the first sprinter to improve at an advanced age) and with the track seemingly running a lot fairer than has been the case at a few meetings this year on Wednesday, stall 13 isn’t necessarily the stumbling block it might have appeared.
York Ebor 2025: Bint Al Daar (4:10)
Older horses have won this for the past couple of years, with the 6yo Canoodled successful last year, and second to Canoodled was Bint Al Daar, who came from the rear to run on strongly for second. Since then, she lost her form somewhat for Kevin Phillapart De Foy and was sold on to Kevin Frost last month.
Two starts since then haven’t really revealed a lot, but it was a little better at Haydock last time, plugging on after getting outpaced, and with that the addition of some headgear might help her travel into this a bit better. She’s certainly on a good mark if she can bounce back, and Alfie Gee, who has impressed for a 7lb claimer this season, takes a bit more off her burden. At 25-1 and bigger, I can back her each-way here.
York Ebor 2025: Point of Contact (5:10)
Point Of Contact (5.10) has experience of the Knavesmire, having finished second to the long odds-on Bowmark here back in May and he hasn’t done a lot wrong in two handicap starts since, beaten a length and a half when dropped back to 7f at Haydock on next start and unlucky not to get nearer at Goodwood next time, beaten just under three lengths but not getting a run when he needed one. He’s almost certainly better than his mark, he just needs a bit more luck to show it, and it’s still very early days with him. Stall 3, on the evidence above, looks as good as anywhere to work from.
