Hector Crouch: Big Weekend Rides, Lingfield, January 12th 2025

Hector Crouch

Leading jockey Hector Crouch is back with kwiff, giving updates on his weekend rides and his thoughts on being top of the All Weather Jockey’s Championship.

Hector Crouch: Weekend Rides, Jan 11th 2025

It’s been another good week, with a double at Wolverhampton on Monday followed by winners at Wolverhampton and Chelmsford thereafter. I’m told that I’m five clear at the top of the All Weather Jockeys’ Championship, but I don’t take much notice of that sort of stuff. I’m trying to just ride winners, as opposed to be leading rider. I’m lucky to be riding for trainers who have their horses in good order.

Misty Sky was a good winner last Saturday, making all at Southwell and looks the type that will have the chance to improve on the all-weather, with a programme that caters to her and similar types over the winter. The Outlaw is another who did it nicely in the week – he’s in at Kempton under a penalty midweek. It’s a stronger race, but he should have further improvement still to come.

Weekend Rides: Destructive (6.00 Wolv)

Destructive is a nice sort, who ran well in higher grade at Meydan after a promising debut at Chelmsford. He’s only had one start since that, and has been gelded and given time. He’s a lovely big horse and shouldn’t have any issue giving weight to the 3yos. There’s a couple of unexposed sort he’s got to contend with (Wanderlust and Run With It) but I wouldn’t want to be on anything else.

Weekend Rides: Tiempo Allegre (6.30 Wolv)

She’s a nice filly, who has to be taken back to be seen in her best light. She’s up in trip today, to a mile and a quarter, with the longer trip taken to settle her. You could argue that she’s been unlucky not to win on her last two starts and I think she is better than her mark of 65 suggests..

Weekend Rides: Roselily (7.30 Wolv)

Roselily ran better than her finishing position suggested when down the field on nursery debut last time out at Wolverhampton. She got tired over seven furlongs that day so I think the drop back to six, and the handicapper taking a few pounds off, she see her improve this evening.

Weekend Rides: Star of Atlantis (12.42 Ling)

Star of Atlantis has a good chance of following-up her recent Southwell success in the Classified Stakes over seven furlongs. Jack Jones has his string in good order of late (25% strike-rate the last fortnight) and I thought she was good value the last day – her and the favourite pulling clear in the closing stage.

The biggest danger looks to be Match Anthem chasing the hat-trick after recent wins at Wolverhampton and Chelmsford. I’d be very surprised if the winner came from elsewhere.
