Super Saturday Racing Tips: Ascot and Wetherby, November 2nd 2024

Irish Horses to Follow

The jumps season steps up a gear this afternoon, with Ascot and Wetherby hosting the best of the domestic action as well as Grade 1 action from Down Royal and we have Saturday Racing Tips for national hunt entuthiasts to follow.

Saturday Racing  Tips: November 2nd 2024

With a lack of rain in recent weeks at Saturday’s jumps tracks, the ground is set to be on the quick side across the card on Saturday. We’ve picked out three bets from Britain on Saturday including a potential Gold Cup contender in Wetherby’s feature race.

Saturday Racing  Tips: Bravemansgame (2.58)

The Charlie Hall is Saturday’s feature race domestically and 2022’s winner, Bravemansgame, must have solid claims of landing another renewal. His very best form has come on flat tracks, including his course and distance win and his King George success later that campaign, his most recent success. He’s been a shade unlucky not to win subsequently having been just touched off in this race last year after a bad mistake at the last fence before hitting the crossbar twice more last season at the top level.

This time around, he doesn’t have to carry a penalty for any graded wins, unlike last year, and the others in this line-up would have to post a clear career best if he runs to the level he has done in the last two renewals. Paul Nicholls’ gelding has had wind surgery since he was last seen in the Bowl at Aintree  but his 2022 win in this race came after a wind op and he ought to go well for Team Ditcheat, who have won two of the last four renewals of this contest. Champion Jockey Harry Cobden has cemented himself as one of the best pilots in the game, and will be looking forward to a good spin.

Saturday Racing  Tips: Sandor Clegane (2.22)

Earlier in the afternoon, there’s an argument to say that Sandor Clegane should be outright favourite for the Grade 2 hurdle contest on the Wetherby card. Paul Nolan’s seven-year-old has been mixing it at the top level over fences, including a ten-length fourth in last season’s Brown Advisory and his subsequent effort in the Champion Novice at Punchestown is worth marking up, having been given plenty to do from rear that day.

Fitness is a potential concern but it’s unlikely that the talented rider, Sean O’Keeffe would be making the journey over for his only ride on the card if a below par seasonal reappearance run was expected and he should relish the drying ground at the west Yorkshire venue..

Saturday Racing  Tips: Our Power (3.45)

The penultimate contest on Ascot’s card is one of the stronger betting races of the day over jumps with 11 declared and one that may have been a little forgotten about is Our Power for Welsh handler Sam Thomas.

He won this contest back in 2022 before a Grade 3 handicap success at Kempton and while he clearly wasn’t right last season, his record fresh is excellent and he has the talented jockey, Dylan Johnston claiming 5lb so he may outrun his price in this contest.
