Read our Saturday Previewing, including tips from an exciting card from Sandown featuring two Group races and Listed action from Beverley and Chester. Here, we’ve analysed the action and picked out selections from the best of Saturday’s racing.
Saturday Preview: Walter Hartright (1.30 Beverley)
Walter Hartright was only beaten a neck at Chepstow last time in a competitive Racing League event and he was bidding for his fifth win on the spin that day. That form is already working out nicely with the winning going close since in a deep race at York and a return to quicker ground should suit too.
Saturday Preview: Star of Orion (1.50 Sandown)
Star Of Orion bounced back to form when narrowly denied at Newmarket last time out and there are a few reasons to think he can go well again in The Geoffrey Freer Stakes over the extended mile and a half. That was just his second run for this yard who do well with recruits who have already been in training and first-time cheekpieces could eke out a bit more from this six-year-old.
Saturday Preview: Commanche Falls (2.05 Beverley)
Commanche Falls wasn’t beaten far in a highly competitive handicap at York last week, shaping like he was right back to form and the stiff five furlongs at Beverley should be in his favour. He showed that he still has plenty of speed when going close in first-time blinkers and if the headgear has the same effect again, he should be able to go close against these rivals.
Saturday Preview Tamfana (2.25 Sandown)
The 3yo filly Tamfana may not have got her head in front so far this season but she was a Group 3 winner as a juvenile last year and she’s run several creditable races in defeat at Group 1 level this term. The drop in class today can only help this progressive filly who should be able to get her head back in front at this sort of level.
Saturday Preview Boardman (2.40 Chester)
Boardman goes really well at Chester and could be primed for another big run in this contest. Tim Easterby’s stalwart was only narrowly denied on his penultimate run and an all-weather surface wouldn’t have suited in the Racing League last time out.
Saturday Preview: Involvement (3.00 Sandown)
Involvement was on a stiff upward curve before a blip at Deauville earlier this month when not showing what he’s capable of. Not much went right for him that day and there was plenty to like about the way he won a Heritage Handicap at Newmarket on his penultimate outing, so his latest run could be worth forgiving.
Saturday Preview Absurde (3.15 Chester)
The Irish raiders could be the ones to focus on and Absurde should be capable of winning a race at this level. Last year’s Ebor winner should come on for his latest outing and drying ground will suit Willie Mullins’ contender.
Saturday Preview: Royal Playwright (3.35 Sandown)
There was a lot to like about Royal Playwright’s debut at Salisbury last month. He quicked away nicely in the closing stages in the style of a smart horse and given the yard’s propensity to improve their juveniles markedly from run-to-run, there’s an argument to say he should be favourite for this contest.
