Glorious Goodwood 2024 is five days of action-packed flat racing starting on Tuesday and there’s some cracking action on the first day. Group races featured include the Lennox, the Vintage Stakes and the Group 1 Goodwood Cup. We’ve picked out horses to follow in all eight races including a couple of value picks. The feature race on Day 1 sees Aidan O’Brien’s dual Gold Cup hero Kyprios bid to give Team Ballydoyle yet further success, after Kyprios’ success in 2022 and Yeats’ winning in both 2006 and 2008.
Glorious Goodwood 2024: Wadacre Gomez (1.50)
It often pays to be on the front end at Goodwood over this sort of trip and one that may be able to get to the lead is Wadacre Gomez. He’s won two of his last three starts and often either races prominently or leads, so with a potential uncontested lead on the cards in this contest, he could be the one to side with if he handles the switch back to turf.
Glorious Goodwood 2024: The Parthenon (2.25)
This looks like a red-hot renewal of the Vintage and it may go the way of The Parthenon who bolted up at Gowran last time out. He was thought good enough to race in Group company first time out and he ought to remain competitive back up in class here.
Glorious Goodwood 2024: Kinross (3.00)
It’s hard to get away from the claims of Kinross who has won two of the last three renewals of this race, and was only narrowly denied in the other. Six furlongs looks too sharp for him these days and he should relish both a drop in class and the return to seven furlongs.
Glorious Goodwood 2024: Kyprios (3.35)
It’s difficult to underplay the claims of Kyprios. He showed he was as good as ever when winning the Ascot Gold Cup last time and he can land a four-timer here, having also won his first two starts of the campaign over in Ireland.
Glorious Goodwood 2024: Lord Riddiford (4.10)
A really tight sprint contest in which Lord Riddiford goes for a remarkable fourth renewal on the spin. He’s better suited to Goodwood than anywhere else and he’s done well to get himself back down in the handicap to compete off joint bottom weight for this year’s renewal.
Glorious Goodwood 2024: Gannas (4.45)
Gannas is an interesting runner for Joseph O’Brien. He was a real eyecatcher at Fairyhouse on debut, a race he should have probably won, and he may gain compensation here.
Glorious Goodwood 2024: Strutting (5.20)
Strutting may be able to make all of the running in this contest. She went mightily close at Royal Ascot where she was just found out by the stiff finish and she looks like a horse firmly on the up for a yard in form.
Glorious Goodwood 2024: Dance and Romance (5.55)
Andrew Balding could hardly be going into Goodwood in better form and Dance And Romance looks to have solid claims of landing the finale after a major step forward at Nottingham last time.
