Ruth Jefferson is back with kwiff to discuss her recent injuries woes, as well as Saturday’s trip to Ayr for the Scottish National meeting as ‘The Diva’ seeks further success north of the border.
Ruth Jefferson: The Diva to Strut Her Stuff at Ayr
Thanks for the messages of concerns, but we’re still carrying on as best as can be after last week’s fall. A combination of sleeping under several duvets, and lots of painkillers, is the order of proceedings at the minute but needless to say I’ve felt better.
Ruth Jefferson: Go Go Chicago
Racing wise, the yard are in good nick, and it was great to see Go Go Chicago run so well on Monday. He ran well behind the odds-on favourite (Cloonaira) for John McConnell with our lad trying to give 17lb to the winner. It was another good ride by Jamie Hamilton, despite Chicago getting beat, we couldn’t have asked for any more really.
It’s becoming hard to place horses with the limits on certain races, but we’ll try and get him out again in the next few weeks before the end of the season. We’re still learning all the time with, and we’ll probably step him up in trip now, also.
Ruth Jefferson: Sounds Russian
Sounds Russian is back home after struggling with the step up in class in last week’s Liverpool Hurdle at Aintree. He’ll be done for the season now, and we’ll look to give him a full season over fences next term. Affectionately known as ‘Bruce’ in the yard – he still has plenty of ability and touchwood we’ll get a full season from him next year without any hiccups or niggles.
Ruth Jefferson: Lavida Avida
I’ll be heading to Ayr with ‘The Diva’ on Saturday, despite my own personal niggles and hope she’ll run a good race. I am seldom prone to hyperbole but I did think she was brilliant last time out at Kelso, and she is in good form at home. People will often overhear me giving her a bollocking in the yard because she can be a pain in the arse, but she has so much talent and it’s all just part of her character.
I think the handicapper was a bit harsh to put her up after that listed success; did she really improve or was it the fact she benefitted from the step up in trip to three miles? She is far from straightforward – I don’t ride her anymore at home because she’s a bit of a madam – but she’s in good form and we go there with a very good chance. Brian rides, and we’re quite hopeful.
