The flat is back this weekend and Ross Burdon Racing are ready for the new turf season. Read the latest updates from Sackville Stables as Ross and Hollie prepare for a busy summer.
Ross Burdon Racing: March 25th 2026 Update
This weekend marks the start of the new turf season, with Doncaster opening the new campaign on Saturday. Unfortunately we wont be running anything at this years Lincoln meeting and instead on Saturday will be attending Southwell for their all-weather evening fixture.
Ross Burdon Racing: High Point
Before that, though, High Point will make his return to flat racing at Kempton this (Wednesday) evening. After a couple of unsuccessful forays into hurdling over the winter we decided to bring High Point back to the flat now the turf season is re-starting, although as there aren’t many races suitable for him until the end of next month, he will make his return on the all-weather, a surface he is yet to win on.
I’m not convinced he doesn’t handle the all-weather, he trains on synthetic surfaces everyday and so is well used to them and he actually ran quite well at Kempton as a two year old. High Point is the only confirmed front runner in the race and the small field should suit, High Point really enjoys bouncing out in front and cutting out his own running.
Ross Burdon Racing: Constitution Hill
Jack Mitchell takes the ride and High Point will absolutely test his fitness levels as he isn’t an easy ride! If High Point enjoys his return to the flat and can run to a similar level as he showed when winning at Haydock last autumn he should have an each way chance in an open looking race.
Constitution Hill will also be running at Kempton this evening, aiming to build on the fantastic impression he created last month on his flat debut. No doubt his participation will bring a larger crowd than a usual Wednesday evening meeting and hopefully Constitution Hill can live up to his star billing.
Ross Burdon Racing: Cezarro
As I previously mentioned, on Saturday we will be at Southwell, with Cezarro stepping up in trip after finishing runner up over a mile on his previous outing. Cezarro pulled very hard at Kempton at the start of March, racing keenly before staying on behind an impressive winner, who has been placed again since.
Cezarro hasn’t been keen in any of his homework so we were surprised that he ran so freely last time and if he races like that again, over a trip almost half a mile further than he ran over last time, he will struggle to stay the trip. Despite this, he has always been a horse we felt would stay further than a mile and I’m hopeful that he will settle much better this time around. Our last couple of runners have performed with credit, whilst not hitting the line in front. Seventy finished third last Wednesday in a funny race, on paper there was very little pace in the race, so we decided to ride
Ross Burdon Racing: Seventy
Seventy closer to the pace than we normally do, but, King’s Hand, trained by Joe Parr, raced very keenly and pulled himself to the front, setting the race up for the horses set off the pace. Seventy stayed on, whilst looking one paced, something he has done previously at the track and I’m convinced the deeper surface at Kempton blunts the speed he showed when winning at Lingfield earlier in the year. We will now look to run him back on the grass with the aim of trying to find a turf race he can win to add to his profile.
Ross Burdon Racing: Ernie’s Valentine
Ernie’s Valentine ran another fine race on Friday night, finishing fourth at Wolverhampton under Jack Mitchell. Ernie jumped and travelled very well, but Jack just thought the leaders had more pace than him at the business end of the race. We will step him up to ten furlongs now, possibly on Monday, before he has a well deserved holiday.
