A week with no runners definitely feels much longer than seven days! I would love to say its been a week where Hollie and I could’ve jetted off somewhere hot, especially on Tuesday when the weather was particularly miserable, but there is far too much work on preparing the horses for the year ahead to warrant a holiday just yet. Read his latest update from the new stables, exclusively for kwiff below.
Ross Burdon Racing: Big Jan 30th Update
With the February sales coming up, as well as the regular online sales we now have, the last week has been spent doing research on potential recruits we could aim to pick up in the next few weeks, as well highlighting to potential owners that we are very much on the look out to expand our team for the year.
In the last twelve months we have shown we can improve horses which move to us, with several horses that have joined the yard reaching career high marks whilst under out care. I would like to hope that current owners with horses in training have taken notice of our achievements so far and have us in their mindset when looking at potential trainers to employ.
Ross Burdon Racing: Week Ahead
Over the next week we are likely to have only two runners, which after such a busy start to 2026 isn’t a great surprise. On Monday our all weather specialist, Ernie’s Valentine, will likely head to Wolverhampton for his latest assignment. Ernie has held his form magnificently this winter, winning twice and placing another three times since the end of September and if he can run to the same level as when second recently at Southwell, he should again run well.
The entries for Monday’s race do look strong for the grade, recent multiple winner Latin, who currently leads the Arc All-Weather Horse of the Year competition, holds an entry as does Francesi who has won two of his last three and other last time out winners Mr Nugget and Gennadius.
Ross Burdon Racing: Dusty Not Done With
Dust Cover will look to show he can handle Kempton as well as he has Southwell this winter when he runs there next Wednesday in a London Middle Distance Series qualifier. After winning two of his last three starts, and being unlucky in that one defeat, Dust will attempt to carry on his improvement running away from Southwell for the first time since he first got his head in front.
I have no fears about him handling the slightly different surface at Kempton and with Dust Cover’s rounded action I would actually hope that he will appreciate the deeper polytrack at the Sunbury venue.
Ross Burdon Racing: Tatts Bound
The rest of next week will be spent at Tattersalls where I hope we can add to the team before the sales end. As a yard always looking to take the next step forward we will always be looking to add to the quality we have in the yard as well as hoping to impress prospective owners when we can.
