RB Racing: Super Dusty Does the Business, January 23rd Update

Ross Burdon Spring Racing Update

After our first runner from Sackville House won we didn’t have to wait very long for RB Racing’s second winner from the new base.

RB Racing: Latest January 23rd Update

Dust Cover showed a great attitude last Tuesday at Southwell to fend of two challengers in the last couple of furlongs before ultimately prevailing by a neck, bringing his course and distance record to two wins and a very narrow second.

We will see what the handicapper does to his rating before deciding on his next target, he could return to Southwell for their Friday Night Live meeting next month or take in a race at Kempton in two weeks time before having a short break and waiting for the grass to start. Both races are in the 75 bracket but the added prize money at Southwell may mean we aren’t rated high enough to get a run there.

RB Racing: Latest Runners

Our other runners since the last blog have been a slightly mixed bag. Ernie’s Valentine again showed superb toughness and brilliant consistency to put a poor showing at Wolverhampton a few weeks ago behind him, running a close second at Southwell last Saturday, hitting the front before being mugged close home.

It was a great run from the horse and showed he handles Southwell just as well as the other tracks which will open up more options for him during the rest of the winter. There was a sting in the tail for regular rider and yard apprentice Phoebe Edwards though, as she went over the permitted usage of the ProCush and will now have to serve a seven day suspension.

RB Racing: Learning Curve

As a rider learning their trade the seven day ban may seem harsh, but will serve as a good lesson going forward as to what is and isn’t permitted, Phoebe will learn plenty from that.  Phoebe also rode Seventy this week, as he finished fifth in an apprentice race at Wolverhampton, showing much more than on his first start for us.

Hopefully he will keep on improving form this going forward, though he will need to prove that wasn’t a one off and will need to show some consistency. This run was down in trip from a mile and a half, although I’m not sure on what will end up being his best trip yet as he switches off so well we could yet go back up in distance with him.

RB Racing: Week Ahead

Not so positive was Saturn Seven’s run at Kempton, if it can be called a run as she basically refused to race, completely blowing the start and then hanging away from the track when she eventually did jump away from the gates. This will be her last start for the yard and she will now have an entry into the February online sale.

It is a real shame as she has plenty of ability, as shown when winning three times in Ireland, but ultimately she has lost the love of racing. Hopefully someone will take her on to breed from as she will make a lovely broodmare.

Over the next week we wont have any runners at all, with nothing planned after today’s runner until the start of February. Today’s runner, Cezarro, makes his debut for the yard after arriving from Ireland in December. We’re very much still learning about him but having watched his past replays he has often #been keen, racing freely before folding. We will try and get him to settle and see if there is a horse in there for us going forward.
