Group 1 winning jockey Hector Crouch is back with kwiff to look at his rides for all five days this week at Royal Ascot 2025.
Royal Ascot 2025: Day 1
No Half Measures is unfortunately a Non Runner in The King Charles III Stakes (King’s Stand Stakes) to you and I, otherwise I thought he would have had a good each way chance at a big price.
The race itself looks wide open with Aussie raider Asfoora a bit vulnerable bidding to land back-to-back renewals. She got a good ride from Oisin to win this 12 months ago but these sprinters tend to beat each other and I wouldn’t be surprised to see something cause an upset at a big price.
Royal Ascot 2025: Feigning Madness (5:00)
It’s no surprise to see a Willie Mullins trained horse the favourite in The Ascot Stakes given his record in the race. And the layers will be even more worried when you see the Tony Bloom-owned gelding already well backed like defeat is out of the question.
These Ascot handicaps are notoriously competitive however and I think my lad Feigning Madness (5.00) is over-priced given his two runs this season so far.
He was in need of the run when fourth on seasonal debut at Newbury, and was ridden all wrong when last of four in The Sagaro Stakes at Ascot last time out. He’s much better than that and, providing he stays, would have a very good chance of proving to be better than a mark of 98 suggests.
Royal Ascot 2025: Doha (5.35)
I didn’t like either option for Doha at this year’s Royal Meeting but we’ve opted to go for the handicap, rather than the Gp2 contest 24 hours later.
She was a wonderfully consistent mare last season and was given plenty to work with after her return in The Middleton Stakes at York’s Dante Meeting. She probably needs a mike and a quarter (instead of tomorrow’s mile) on the likely quick ground at this stage of her career and we’ll give it a go. She has to carry a penalty but is a tough filly and always runs her race.
Royal Ascot 2025: Day 2
My only ride on Wednesday is a very good one with Society Kiss (2.30) ear-marked for The Queen Mary Stakes after her winning debut over course and distance here at the track last month.
She was a fast breeze-up horse but bettered that still with a scintillating performance here 6 weeks ago – blitzing what looked on paper a decent looking maiden. The form has started to work out well and, given her confirmed ability on the track and the ground, I think she has an excellent chance. She’s my best chance of the week.
