Hector Crouch heads to Southwell for three final rides on Saturday before jetting off to Vietnam and Thailand for a well-earned break. Kwiff’s jockey columnist is hoping to sign off on a high after enjoying more success in the saddle earlier this week.
There were some nice winners in the week, including a potentially smart filly of Charlie Johnston’s who bolted up by 10 lengths around Chelmsford. Keep an eye on Young Clarissa.
The first of three rides on Saturday comes from David O’Meara’s Ceinture d’Orion, creeping into the foot of the weights for the Mile Handicap.
She spat the dummy out last time out here in first-time cheekpieces, but before that had been pretty consistent in similar handicaps. The handicapper has given her a chance, dropping her 3lb, and she should go well.
I’m not sure what to expect from Iron Curtain (2.40), who ran well on debut at Salisbury but was probably a little bit flattered when staying on to finish second, having been green early.
He was last of five but behind some nice types at Goodwood last time out and needs to bounce back. A draw of 14 from 14 doesn’t make life easy.
