Hector Crouch’s Exclusive Salisbury Preview: July 25th 2026
I’ve got some cracking rides so apologies if this Salisbury preview sounds a little optimistic, starting with Sierra Belle (6.15) in the opening 6f Novice Stakes. She’s a lovely Juddmonte homebred by Frankel and after an excellent runner-up effort on debut a couple of weeks ago at Newmarket, should be going one better here.
Another nice horse by Frankel is Matins (6.45) for Cheveley Park in the Maiden Stakes over a mile. He’s a well-related sort, being a half-brother to connections’ Sacred, and will need to be an 80+ rated horse to beat the likes of Kinetic Impact. He wears a tongue strap on debut and should go well for the red-hot yard of William Haggas.
Horse that get on a roll can be hard to stop, fillies especially, and I hope to partner Maid in Devon (7.15) to completing the four-timer in the 6f Handicap. She’s up 15lb for those three previous wins but is clearly thriving at present and loves it around Salisbury. She will be hard to beat.
Hector’s Salisbury Preview: Hat’s Off
My fourth ride, is also the fourth favourite of the day, with Queen’s Companion (7.45) running in the silks of His Majesty the King in the mile and a quarter handicap. Her pedigree suggested she wanted perhaps no further than a mile but she got this trip last time out, admittedly only just and has gone up 2lb in the weights for that Newbury success. She’s bred to improve and I think there’s more to come.
Virtue Diligence is probably the one with the most question marks in terms of tonight’s rides, and makes his handicap debut from an opening mark of 74. He has steadily progressed on all three career starts, and plugged on well behind two nice horses here last time out at a massive price. He should love the likely fast ground and is entitled to improve for the step up in trip.
Hector’s Salisbury Preview: Lucky Last
The lucky last looks a two-horse race between Owen Burrows’ hat-trick seeking Escape Magic and my mount Desert Charm (8.45) for the Mike Murphy yard. Our mount is also seeking a third win on the bounce after wins at Lingfield and Chepstow and could still be ahead of the handicapper despite a 4lb rise at the weights.
