Hector Crouch: Busy April
It’s been good to get the racing back on the turf, and lots of good horses back out at Newbury and Newmarket in the week. I thought Push The Limit was very good in defeat, trying to give 7lb to a nice horse at Newmarket, whilst Beagle Bay ran a cracking second at Newbury’s Greenham meeting. The latter should be winning a maiden sooner rather than later.
The long trip to Musselburgh was made worthwhile with Sportingsilverlime doing the business north of the border. Trainer James Owen thought he had a good chance, and was proven very right. His string remain in very good form.
Hector Crouch: Ripon Bound
I make the trip to Yorkshire to ride two for Ralph Beckett this afternoon starting with The Quiet Gent expected to defy a penalty in the opener. He finished second on debut behind Great Banter – a horse now set for All Weather Finals Day – before going on to go one better on his next start at Kempton. If he was running a horse like Good Banter close then you’d be hopeful he could defy a penalty in what doesn’t look the strongest of races.
Miss Yorkshire looks the obvious danger and gets plenty of weight (13lb) but I’d expect our lad to follow-up his recent all-weather success now on the turf.
Hector Crouch: The Outlaw
The Outlaw heads here chasing the hat-trick after two relatively straightforward successes in handicaps on the all weather and is well drawn to complete the hat-trick. He’s up 13lb for those two wins at Chelmsford and Kempton respectively, and with further progression likely should be hopefully hard to beat. I was a bit surprised to see a pair of blinkers get put on him but Ralph generally has a good reason for putting on.
He’s hung both left and right in his last two wins, so you would assume it’s just to try and get him to concentrate on his job better. Fingers crossed it brings further improvement and he completes the hat-trick later.
