Group 1 winning jockey is Paris bound this weekend for huge rides on both days in the French capital – read his exclusive thoughts in his latest kwiff diary.
Hector Crouch’s Arc Weekend Preview
September ended up a good month for me with 17 winners, and it’s nice go get off the mark early in October with Wednesday’s nice double at Kempton followed by Lady Rosia winning a nice maiden at Nottingham on Thursday.
Arc Weekend: Saturday
I have two rides on Saturday in Paris starting with The Sussex Stakes winner Qirat returning to a mile after an excellent fifth over and inadequate tripl at York. He remains a bit of a forgotten horse due to the disappointment of connections’ other horse that day at Goodwood, but remains a classy individual and highly talented.
There was a bit of conjecture about the manner of the race that day, but he showed plenty of bravery to battle to the line at Goodwood, and he’s something of a forgotten horse it seems. I thnk he has a really good chance in Paris. My other ride is Cape Orator who landed a nice pot here in France earlier in the season and is back on the hunt for more prize money. I thought he ran a great race when third in The Champagne Stakes at Doncaster, and now steps up in trip to a mile at Paris-Longchamp.
When he won at Deauville the ground was officially ‘soft’ but rode like good-to-firm, and I thnk he’s actually better with a bit of juice in the ground. The biggest concern about Saturday is the fact he is drawn 17 of 17, which is far from ideal to say the least at such a tight track. The only salvo is the fact that the main market principles are all drawn in double figures, so let’s see how the race pans out. I think he’s the best horse in the race, so fingers crossed for the rub of the green in-running.
Arc Weekend: Sunday
The big race itself is wide open, and I wouldn’t like to nail my colours to the mast of anything. It looks a tough reenwal. My sole ride on Arc Day is Ralph Beckett’s Zoum Zoum in the Prix de la Foret. I thought it was the best he’d ran all season when a narrowly beaten fourth last time out Doncaster, and he’s entitled to take his chance. He has a lot to find on official ratings but he will have his optimum conditions to hopefully put his best foot forward. Fingers crossed.
