3 Top Picks for Friday Horse Racing Action

Saturday Racing Tips

Three horses to follow on Friday Horse Racing: Ascot, Sandown and York, July 26

Now we’re in the middle of the summer, there’s always plenty going on and Friday Horse Racing is another busy day with no fewer than eight meetings taking place in the UK and Ireland. Ascot’s six-race card is the afternoon’s highlight and there’s also Listed action from York in the evening.

We’ve taken a good look at Friday’s cards and picked out our three best bets that are well worth considering for your multiples.

Friday Horse Racing 3 Best Bets

3.35 Ascot – John Guest Racing Handicap

Ascot’s feature race is a fiercely competitive 1m4f handicap and the majority of the field have won at least once this season already. Useful juvenile hurdler Burdett Road returns to the Flat on a mark of 101 and rates as an interesting contender. John & Thady Gosden’s MUTAAWID makes his handicap debut in this one and he gets the nod.

The son of Frankel absolutely bolted up on his first try at 1m4f at Kempton earlier this month and would be hard to beat if turning up in similar form. He travelled well throughout the race and was always prominent. It didn’t take long for him to pull clear and the six-length success was hugely impressive.

While a mark of 94 does not appear to be a freebie, that recent effort indicates that he could be a good deal better than that. It would be no surprise if he was to go on to Listed or Group races before long and he is definitely one to watch.

7.35 Sandown – Freed From Desire Handicap

This Friday horse racing is full of unexposed three-year-olds which leaves us with plenty to ponder. A field of seven has been declared and you could make a pretty decent case for all of them. However, one runner who stands out is Eve Johnson Houghton’s DUE TO HENRY and he is already a two-time winner.

He was short of room at a key stage when an eye-catching fourth on his handicap debut, where the reopposing Lone Piper finished second. Beaten less than a length that day, he undoubtedly would have finished closer with a clear run.

Johnson Houghton’s three-year-old made no mistake when winning impressively at Windsor next time and Due To Henry is clearly progressing well. It could be a while before the handicapper catches up and further success could be on the cards.

This appears a good time to catch him in this Friday horse racing as he reappears under a 6lb penalty, despite being due to go up 7lb. The gelding will not qualify for 0-80s when he runs off his new mark, making this an excellent opportunity to follow up.

7.50 York – British EBF Lyric Fillies’ Stakes (Listed)

This Listed event is the feature race of the day and you can see why Roger Varian’s Ejaabiyah will be popular in the betting. Kevin Ryan’s BOLSENA may have been a little overlooked on Friday and she is definitely capable of giving the favourite a run for her money.

Her most recent effort confirms that she is not a fan of soft ground and that disappointing performance is not an accurate reflection of her ability. The daughter of Kingman was a neck away from scoring in Listed company at Goodwood before that and the winner went on to finish second in a Royal Ascot Group 2.

If she can replicate that level of form on this occasion, it is not hard to envisage her coming out on top and it is likely that we will see a significantly improved performance this time around.
