Prestbury Park local Cathryn Fry has chopped it off already this week, and is back with more Cheltenham Festival tips for the final two days of the greatest show on turf.
Cheltenham Festival Tips: Cath’s Days 3/4 Preview
Back down to earth yesterday on what was an ultra competitive card. Hopefully we can find a few winners over the remaining few days. (Editor’s comments: punters should be well on top after Cath’s two winning selections from two advised bets on Tuesday with Lossiemouth NAP and Johnnywho at 7/5f and 18s respectively).
Cheltenham Festival Tips: Carrigmornaspruce (1.20)
I’ve been with Carrigmornaspruce in this race for a long time and I am not going to desert her now. Recently bought by wealthy connections, this mare was 2nd last time out in a grade one at Leopardstown. That was after a win in a maiden hurdle at Listowel in September. The six year old had fantastic bumper form, too. Most notably taking the scalp of Seo Linn at the Punchestown Festival last year. I understand why Bambino Fever is favourite for this but I think Carrigmornaspruce is a great value each-way bet.
Cheltenham Festival Tips: Highland Crystal (Fri, 1.20)
Highland Crystal’s form was boosted by Saratoga on Tuesday. Last time out at Naas on very deep ground, Highland Crystal (1.20) gave Saratoga 7lbs. So, if the expected rain arrives, it does not diminish her chances at all. She’s tiny but so game, plus gets the mares allowance here; she’s a another great each-way bet.
Cheltenham Festival Tips: Helvic Dream (Fri, 2.00)
Helvic Dream (2.00) lost the Galway Hurdle in the stewards room to Ndaawi, who also runs here, he’s not without a chance either with Josh Williamson taking the ride. Back in 2021, Helvic Dream was a group one winner on the flat. He’s nine years of age now, however, I can’t help but think that he’s overpriced at 33/1. He’s had five months off the track but he’s trained by a genius in Noel Meade, who won the bumper on Wednesday.
Cheltenham Festival Tips: Gaelic Warrior (Fri, 4.00)
The Lossiemouth / Gaelic Warrior double is on! Gaelic Warrior has been a sensation this season, an impressive winner of the John Durkan then just losing out on the King George in a three-way photo. I truly believe this has been the plan for him all season.
An each way horse that I’ll be backing in the same race, is: Spillane’s Tower. In January’s Cotswold Chase, we finally saw the real Spillane’s Tower. I always thought Cheltenham would suit this big old fashioned chaser and he proved that. Trained by Jimmy Mangan who has his small string of horses in County Cork, the horse was bred by owner JP McManus. You can see why he’s the apple of their eye. Harry Cobden takes the ride. A great booking and no surprise given he will soon be stepping into his new role as first jockey to JP McManus.
I’ll be going for a win on Gaelic Warrior and a reverse exacta: Gaelic Warrior and Spillane’s Tower. We are forecast rain here in Cheltenham by Friday morning so expect a ground change. Good luck, Go well!
