Champion Chase Day Tips: Cathryn Fry’s Huge Day 2 Preview

Champion Chase Day

Cathryn Fry was 2 for 2 on Day of The Cheltenham Festival with both Lossiemouth (7/5f) and Johnnywho (18/1) obliging for followers and is back ahead of Champion Chase Day on Day 2.

Cathryn Fry’s Huge Champion Chase Day Tips

Is this the most competitive second day that we have seen for a good few years? I certainly think so.  After a great opening day, we go rolling into Wednesday playing with the bookmakers money. Lossiemouth was electric yesterday. I’m so happy that the beautiful mare won the Champion Hurdle. It pays to roll the dice.

Champion Chase Day Tips: Sober (1.20)

Sober is an interesting contender in this staying novice hurdle. A high-class performer on the Flat in France, he has maintained an unbeaten record in three starts since joining Willie Mullins, highlighted by a decisive success in the Queen Alexandra Stakes at Royal Ascot.

His two wins over hurdles are harder to measure strictly on form figures, as the bare ratings suggest he still has ground to make up on some of his rivals. However, both victories were achieved with a degree of ease that hinted at plenty left in reserve. If he can fully translate his Flat ability to this sphere, he has the potential to play a major role in the outcome.

Champion Chase Day Tips: Western Fold (2pm)

Western Fold who improved steadily with each outing over fences during the summer, beginning with a beginners’ chase at Tipperary in May that has worked out with notably strong form. He built on that promise to land the Mayo National before stepping up again with a huge success in the Galway Plate, later adding the Champion Chase at Gowran Park against seasoned rivals.

After a demanding summer and autumn campaign, he produced another admirable effort when finishing third in a Grade 1 at Down Royal, behind Envoi Allen and Affordale Fury. Given a break afterwards, he returned with an eye catching reappearance at the Dublin Racing Festival that should have sharpened him up nicely. The current ground conditions at Prestbury Park will be in his favour and he is a lovely each way price.

Champion Chase Day Tips: Puturhandstogether (4.00)

There are two horses in this race that take my eye. Firstly: Puturhandstogether, he produced a commanding performance to land the Fred Winter at last season’s Festival, scoring with plenty in reserve and marking himself down as a horse of considerable potential. He later demonstrated his versatility by landing a valuable prize on the Flat at the Curragh in September before being put away for a mid-winter break.

Arriving here fresh, he should appreciate a return to slightly better ground and there remains the sense that his current mark may underestimate him. The move up in trip also looks likely to play to his strengths, and he has the profile of one capable of making a significant impact. Secondly: Farren Glory (4.00) who was a grade one winner a few seasons ago, now steps up in trip back over hurdles, after a spell over fences. He wears first time cheekpieces and is an attractive each way price. Also the chosen mount of Jack Kennedy.
