The Premier League returns after the international break with a fierce London derby between Tottenham and West Ham this Saturday lunchtime.

Tottenham vs West Ham: Spurs should have the edge over rivals

The formbook read well for Tottenham before their collapse against Brighton earlier this month.

Ange Postecoglou’s men had reeled off five straight wins in all competitions, including an inspiring 3-0 win on the road to Manchester United, and were starting to push for the Premier League’s European places again.

And things were looking good when they established a 2-0 lead away to Brighton after just 37 minutes in their final game before the international break.

Goals from Yankuba Minteh, Georginio Rutter and Danny Welbeck turned that game on its head, though, and Spurs lost 3-2.

It was a frustrating day for the club but the bigger picture suggests they are moving in the right direction and punters should not read too much into the last results these two teams had before the hiatus.

While Spurs crumbled in that high-scoring loss to the Seagulls, West Ham were 4-1 winners over Ipswich but they were on a five-game winless run beforehand.

That streak featured a 5-1 mauling by Liverpool in the EFL Cup third round and the Hammers could struggle away to Spurs.

These rivals have leaked a combined 19 goals in the Premier League this season and, while Tottenham should have the edge, the best bet is the home team to win and both teams to score.

Tottenham vs West Ham: Porous defences suggests goals on the cards

Thinking along similar lines to the last wager, a bet on over 3.5 goals also looks an appealing prospect.

That has been a winning bet in two of Tottenham’s last three games in the Premier League and they have scored at least twice in each of their last six matches.

As for West Ham, their 4-1 win over Ipswich showed they have quality in the final third but they conceded at least three goals against each of Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool since the end of August.

Tottenham vs West Ham Predictions: Johnson fancied to strike

Heung-min Son and Richarlison missed out against Brighton but Tottenham have shown strength in depth up top this season and Brennan Johnson in particular is enjoying a decent campaign.

Deployed on the right side of the front three, Johnson has already struck three goals in the Premier League this season and he is a worthwhile bet to score in what should be a high-scoring clash with the Hammers.
