Wolves v Liverpool: Premier League 2024/25

Wolves v Liverpool

Wolves v Liverpool: Old Gold to be left feeling blue

Wolves began the latest round of Premier League fixtures bottom of the table following a miserable start to the campaign but things have been a struggle for much longer than that.

And they are unlikely to improve on Saturday when high-flying Liverpool roll into town for televised teatime contest in the top flight.

The Reds are once again chasing Manchester City at the top of the standings and they will be confident of keeping up the pressure on their old foes and title rivals with victory at Molineux on Saturday evening (kick-off 17:30 BST).

Wolves v Liverpool: Reds in hot form

Liverpool have had to adjust to life under new head coach Arne Slot but the transition has been almost seamless with the Reds winning six of their opening seven matches under Jurgen Klopp’s replacement.

The only blemish on Slot’s copybook is a shock 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest two weeks ago but Liverpool have bounced back from that disappointment to beat AC Milan, Bournemouth and West Ham comfortably.

And they should have few fears against a tame Wolves outfit who have won just one of their last 15 league matches and have had little joy against the Reds of late, either.

Gary O’Neil’s side have lost four of their last five meetings with Slot’s visitors and it was 3-1 to Liverpool in last season’s corresponding fixture.

Wolves were overpowered 3-1 by Aston Villa at the weekend and they lost 2-1 to Newcastle in their last home league outing.

Scoring goals hasn’t been an issue for Wolves, who have scored in all but one of their seven matches this term, but stopping them certainly has as they have conceded at least twice on five occasions.

Chelsea put six past them at the end of August and there is every chance that Liverpool will match their three-goal haul from last season’s trip to Molineux.

The Reds put five past West Ham in the EFL Cup on Tuesday night and keeping them at bay may prove beyond the hosts.

Wolves v Liverpool: Molineux misery to continue

Wolves’ only win this season came at home to Burnley in the EFL Cup, but the Molineux faithful have had little to cheer for a long time now.

You have to go all the way back to April for their last home league win over Luton, which is their sole Premier League success in their last 15 attempts.

The corresponding fixture last season ended 3-1 to Liverpool and a repeat outcome looks a solid bet.

Liverpool have scored exactly three goals in each of their last two away fixtures and they can bag another treble on Saturday evening.

Wolves v Liverpool: Portuguese poacher can snare another goal

Darwin Nunez hasn’t had much of a look in under Arne Slot this season and that has much to do with the excellent form of Diogo Jota.

Jota has been first choice in attack for the Reds across the opening weeks of the campaign and he has repaid the faith with some lively performances.

Only one league goal has been netted by the Portuguese forward, but after bagging twice against West Ham, there could be more to come from the former Wolves man.

Jota is a streaky player and there will be extra incentive to make his mark against his former employers on Saturday.

Wolves v Liverpool: Tips

Wolves are unlikely to fare much better against Liverpool than they have in recent seasons. The Reds are in fine form and have a strong record against their opponents. With Liverpool’s attacking prowess and Wolves’ defensive frailties, a comfortable victory for the visitors seems likely.
