They are likely to maintain their perfect start with a London Stadium victory over West Ham, who have won one and lost one so far. The Hammers, who bounced back from an opening-weekend defeat against Aston Villa by beating Crystal Palace, also won on Wednesday when they saw off Bournemouth 1-0 in the EFL Cup.However, Julen Lopetegui’s men are likely to find it much tougher against the champions.

Manchester City have not wasted any time in getting up to speed at the start of the new season, securing comfortable victories over Chelsea and Ipswich to underline their status as once again the team the rest of the Premier League must try to stop. The newly-promoted Tractor Boys managed to get in front inside 10 minutes at the Etihad last week, but it didn’t take Guardiola’s men long to respond and they turned things around dramatically to lead 3-1 with just 16 minutes on the clock.
After falling to Villa at home in their first game, the Hammers were impressive when winning 2-0 at Palace last weekend and they made it two quick wins when a late Jarrod Bowen goal knocked Bournemouth out of the EFL Cup. Erling Haaland hogged the headlines in last week’s victory over Ipswich as the prolific striker hit yet another hat-trick for City. Kevin De Bruyne more than played his part, though, as the midfielder also got on the scoresheet and supplied an assist for the Norway international.
City have a wealth of attacking options with Bernardo Silva, Jeremy Doku and new signing Savinho all catching the eye so far, but De Bruyne is still one of the champions’ most consistent and reliable performers. The Belgian playmaker attempted two shots against Chelsea on the opening weekend and then had four efforts against Town to suggest he is in the mood to make an impact in the final third in the early weeks of the campaign.
West Ham v Manchester City Exciting Encounter
City have so many attacking options with Haaland, De Bruyne and others capable of hurting any defence but the Hammers also have plenty of dangerous players. Bowen, Niclas Fullkrug, Michail Antonio and Mohammed Kudus all pose a significant threat going forward for the hosts. With such a range of attacking talent on show on both sides, the chance of there being at least four goals in this clash seems high, while it’s worth remembering that last season’s games between them each produced exactly four goals.
