Wembley Magic: FA Cup 2024 Semi-Final Tips

Football Best Bets

Four teams head to Wembley this weekend with hopes and dreams of returning to London in just over a month, but they will need to navigate their FA Cup 2024 semi-finals if they are to challenge for the trophy come May. Championship outfit Coventry are the surprise addition to the final four, with both top-tier Manchester teams also represented and Chelsea the sole team from the capital.

Weary City could come unstuck at Wembley

Manchester City’s defence of the Champions League trophy came to a heartbreaking end at the Etihad on Wednesday as they were knocked out on penalties by Real Madrid and their grueling midweek affair could give Chelsea a chance to upset the odds. Pep Guardiola’s side were in complete control of the ball against Madrid, but 120 minutes of football still takes its toll and they face a Blues outfit fresh from a five-day break between fixtures.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side have shown signs of improvement lately, with a 6-0 thrashing of Everton on Monday extending their unbeaten record to nine games in all competitions. Their last defeat came in the League Cup final in February and they have won six of their nine games since, scoring an impressive 26 goals in the process.

Manchester City have drawn four of their last eight fixtures in all competitions and haven’t been at their best against Pochettino’s Chelsea, drawing both Premier League encounters with the Blues. As such, backing Chelsea in the double chance market @ 2.15 with kwiff appeals.

Fragile defences suggest high-scoring semi is on the cards

Coventry City’s hopes of making the Championship play-offs are dwindling after three defeats from their last four games but they can still make a success of their season if they get past an inconsistent Manchester United at Wembley. The Sky Blues may be on a downward trend, but they are still scoring with regularity and should pose a threat after finding the net in nine of their last 10 matches.

They have only kept two clean sheets in this period, though, so a Manchester United side that have scored 12 goals in their last five matches can make the underdogs’ backline pay. Erik ten Hag’s side have been torrid at the back themselves, though, shipping 12 goals in that five-game period and keeping only five clean sheets in their last 25 outings in all competitions.

With both teams looking to salvage their season with the only remaining piece of silverware on offer and very little resilience in either defence, expect an attacking game and odds of 1.6 with kwiff for both teams to score looks good value in Sunday’s semi-final showdown.
