Europa League 2023/2024: Semi-Final Second-Leg Tips

Europa League 2023/2024

There are two cracking Europa League 2023/2024 semi-final second-leg ties to look forward to on Thursday night as the action on the continent reaches its climax.

Atalanta and Marseille are level at 1-1 after they shared the spoils in France, while Bayer Leverkusen hold a 2-0 advantage over Roma, when the Italians visit the BayArena.

Bayer Leverkusen vs Roma

It has been a wonderful season for Leverkusen, who were crowned Bundesliga champions for the first time in their 120-year history.

Xavi Alonso’s men are yet to taste defeat in 48 matches in all competitions this term and there is the small matter of a treble on the horizon.

Die Werkself are well fancied to beat Kaiserslautern in the German Cup final, but before that, they must convert a 2-0 advantage into a victory in the second leg of their Europa League semi-final with Roma.

Leverkusen were without doubt the better team at the Stadio Olimpico, but Roma had their moments in that game and Daniele De Rossi will no doubt be disappointed that his side failed to convert at least one of three excellent opportunities to score.

The chance to reach the Europa League final may have passed for the Italians, given they head to the BayArena for the second leg, but they have to go on the front foot in Germany and that could lead to a high-scoring contest.

Chasing the game is a horrible position to be in against the quality of Leverkusen, but that is the situation Roma find themselves in, and they could be picked off, by a Bayer team that have shown a huge level of control and quality throughout the season.

A Leverkusen victory and over 2.5 goals can be backed at just short of even-money and that looks like the play at the BayArena.

Atalanta vs Marseille

A 1-1 draw was a pretty fair result in the first leg between Marseille and Atalanta but now the Italians have home advantage in their bid to reach the Europa League final.

The Stade Velodrome contest was limited in terms of clear cut chances, but Gianluca Scamacca still managed to get his name on the scoresheet and there could be a repeat in Bergamo.

The 25-year-old has hit the net 10 times in his last 12 appearances for the Goddess, the Italian notched against Salernitana at the weekend and he is at the head of an attack for a side that has scored 48 goals in 23 home matches in all competitions this season.

Take the former West Ham man to open the scoring at the Gewiss Stadium and send Atalanta to their first ever European final.
