The Euros round-of-16 stage draws to a close on Tuesday evening and we take a look at how the Euro 2024 Outright Markets look as the tournament moves towards the business end. There has been little in terms of shock thus far, with Belgium’s defeat to France on Monday the only ‘big’ name missing from the last eight stage of the competition as it stands.
Pre-tournament favourites England continue to head the outright market at 4.05 and while the Three Lions have put in a series of unconvincing performances, the draw has certainly opened up for Gareth Southgate’s side. Spain are next in at 4.40, with France available at 4.85, but both are on the tougher side of the draw and there looks to be more value further down the list.
Euro 2024 Outright Markets: Back the Dutch
The Netherlands have to beat Romania (17:00) in Munich on Tuesday to reach the quarter-finals and Oranje look good value to get the job done at Allianz Arena and go deep into the tournament. A last-eight clash with either Austria or Turkey would await, and although a contest with Das Team wouldn’t be easy, should Ralf Rangnick’s men come through their last-16 tie, it does look a kinder path than what is happening in the top half of the draw.
Spain, Germany, Portugal and France are all housed in the top half of the quarter-final line up and the Netherlands’ chances are certainly boosted by avoiding that big-hitting quartet. Draw aside, the Netherlands impressed in a 2-1 group-stage victory over Poland and the Dutch were a harshly disallowed goal away from beating France.
Oranje were beaten 3-2 by Rangnick’s men in a pulsating contest in their final first-phase contest, but Ronald Koeman’s were undoubtedly the better side in that Olympic Stadium clash putting up an expected goals tally of 1.73 to Austria’s 0.95. Koeman will be unblinking in his positive approach and attacking threat is something that has been missing from the performances of many teams in Germany. At 11.20, the Netherlands look capable of outrunning their outright odds.
Euro 2024 Outright Markets: Gakpo Glory
Star strikers Harry Kane, Cristiano Ronaldo and Kylian Mbappe have failed to light up Euro 2024, but Cody Gakpo has once again produced the goods on the international stage and the Liverpool forward looks a solid play in the top scorer market. The 25-year-old found the net twice in the group stage and the Dutch forward has managed seven shots on goal in the tournament.
The Liverpool man gets another chance to hit the target against Romania this evening and there looks to be a strong chance that the Netherlands can at least reach the semi-finals in Germany. A deep run would mean more chances for Gakpo to score and from what we have seen at Euro 2024, it may not take more than a couple more strikes for the Dutchman to land top scorer honours.
