Crystal Palace vs Liverpool: Premier League Expert Tips, October 5th 2024

FA Cup 2025

Saturday’s early Premier League game sees two teams at opposite ends of the table do battle at Selhurst Park ahead of Crystal Palace vs Liverpool. Table-topping Reds have won five of their six tier-one games this season, in contrast to Crystal Palace, who are still looking for their first league win.

Arne Slot saw his men make it two wins out of two in the Champions League in midweek and another victory on Saturday lunchtime will keep the Reds at the summit going into the upcoming international break.

Crystal Palace v Liverpool: Early Birds

Last week’s defeat at Everton seemed like a big setback for Crystal Palace, but they have had a full week to prepare for this weekend’s fixture.  Liverpool had a midweek test when beating Bologna 2-0 at Anfield in their latest Champions League fixture. The Reds came from behind to beat the Eagles 2-1 in this corresponding fixture last season, but that was the only game in these sides’ last four meetings to feature over two goals.

Palace, 1-0 winners at Anfield last term, have failed to score in two of their three Premier League home games this term and the lack of punch in the final third will be a concern for manager Oliver Glasner. Saturday’s lunchtime kick-offs often see a slow first half, with three of the six 12:30pm starts this season having yielded no more than two goals – and that includes Liverpool’s 2-0 win at Ipswich on the opening weekend.

Crystal Palace v Liverpool: Dreamy Diaz

It might still be early days, but many will be surprised to see Luis Diaz flying high as Liverpool’s top Premier League scorer with five goals in six games. The Colombian’s best tally in a season came in 2023-24, when he scored eight goals in 32 starts, and he should be easily eclipse that figure this term.

Diaz, who scored in a 1-1 home draw against Crystal Palace in 2022, looks to have a more attacking role under Slot and he appears to be loving life under the new manager. With defences often doubling up on Mohamed Salah, Diaz is taking full advantage of the extra room he is sometimes awarded. The 27-year-old will feel he can find the net against a team who have conceded seven goals in their last five matches.

Crystal Palace v Liverpool: Eagle Eze

To lose Michael Olise in the summer was always going to be a major blow for Palace, who also lost a key defensive figure in Joachim Anderson. The onus to create is now even more on the shoulders of Eberechi Eze, who has just one goal to his name this season.

The England international, who scored 11 times last term, is trying to take the responsibility and the stats suggest that. Eze is ranked third for the most Premier League shots this season, with 25 in six games – with only Erling Haaland and Antoine Semenyo ahead of him.
