Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain are no strangers to each other having met in the group stage of this season’s Champions League, but the stakes are much higher this time around as the pair reconvene in the semi-finals and we have three champions league tips for the second of two semi-finals.
PSG took four points off the German side in the group but that still wasn’t enough to usurp BVB at the top of the section and Wednesday’s hosts could draw first blood in their mouth watering tie this week.
Edin Terzic’s men beat Atletico Madrid 4-2 in the second leg of their quarter-final at the Westfalenstadion to progress 5-4 on aggregate and they can draw on home comforts once again to steal a march in this intriguing contest.
Yellow Wall to play their part
The famous Yellow Wall at Borussia Dortmund’s Westfalenstadion will be in full colour and full voice on Wednesday and they can help push their side towards a crucial first-leg lead. That was certainly true in their quarter-final decider with Atletico which saw BVB run out 4-2 winners in a surprise victory over the resolute Spaniards.
Dortmund had lost the first leg 2-1 in the Spanish capital and it was widely expected that Atletico would shut up shop in Germany, but Terzic’s men had other ideas, smashing in four goals in a dominant display. A similar performance will be needed to see off the challenge of PSG, but the French side haven’t won on three visits to this venue and that sequence could be extended this week, with BVB fancied to take the victory in a lively affair.
Dortmund to have the edge
These two sides have met on six occasions and they have often been entertaining encounters, with only one of those meetings failing to produce any goals. Three of those matches have seen both teams get on the scoresheet, while at least two goals have been scored in five of those fixtures.
However, both sides have shown defensive frailties in recent weeks, so an expectation for more goals this week is high, and a 2-1 home looks a likely outcome. Dortmund have beaten PSG once before on home soil, while the French outfit have never managed more than one goal in a game at the Westfalenstadion. BVB will be desperate to take an advantage with them to France next week, so backing them to claim a narrow victory looks worthy of consideration.
Fullkrug can make his mark
Niclas Fullkrug has scored 19 goals in all competitions this term and the German international looks a value wager to get on the scoresheet again this week. Fullkrug will likely lead the Borussia Dortmund attack in the absence of Sebastian Haller and he was on the mark in the 4-2 win over Atletico Madrid a fortnight ago. He followed that up with another strike against newly-crowned German champions Bayer Leverkusen, and his rich vein of form could help trouble PSG on Wednesday.
At 2.70 to score, the Dortmund forward is worth backing to hit the net once more.
