Premier League betting tips for matchweek 9: Andy Schooler’s best bets for Aston Villa v Fulham, Hull v Ipswich & Newcastle v Everton

Andy Schooler's Premier League betting tips for Matchday 9, featuring Aston Villa and Everton football shirts on a purple kwiff background.

Having backed Aston Villa to beat Man City last weekend, Andy Schooler returns to preview this week’s Premier League action.

Premier League best bets: Matchday 9

Aston Villa v Fulham (Saturday, 8pm)

Villa delivered for this column at a big price last weekend when they ended Manchester City’s 100 per cent record, taking their 10th Premier League point from the last 12 available in the process.

Overall, it’s now six wins in their last eight with Unai Emery’s side having picked up following a slow start to the campaign – understandable given the huge player turnover at Villa Park in the summer.

Now, they are purring with Nicolas Jackson looking a shrewd signing – he has six goals in his last six games – while Emi Buendia and Johan Manzambi are also in good form.

On recent evidence, I’d suggest they should have too much for Fulham here.

The visitors have actually won their last two in the league without conceding, although 1-0 victories over both Hull and Coventry aren’t exactly the most impressive results they could have posted.

This will be a big step up in class for the Cottagers. Don’t be put off by Villa’s midweek League Cup loss at Bournemouth – they changed virtually the entire team. You can back them here at 1.8.

Andy’s tip: Aston Villa to win @ 1.8

Hull v Ipswich (Saturday, 3pm)

Julio Enciso finally got his first goal of the season last weekend and that may well spark him onto some sort of run.

The Paraguayan has been Ipswich’s main attacking threat so far this season and his shot numbers have, once again, been prolific.

He’s sure to have more efforts on goal against a fellow promoted side and with confidence now up, I think he’s worth siding with to continue on the goal trail.

While Hull’s defence has been pretty solid thus far, they’ve still conceded multiple goals in three of their last five games, including two against Everton here at the MKM Stadium.

Newcastle v Everton (Monday, 8pm)

Thierno Barry has already been mentioned in this column this season and the Everton man notched his seventh goal in all competitions against these very opponents on Thursday night in the Carabao Cup.

With no real competition up front in the Toffees’ squad, Barry appears to be benefiting from a proper run in the team, something he rarely got last season when he was constantly rotated due to Beto’s presence.

He’s at 2.75 for another goal at St James’ Park but better value comes via the shots on target market.

Barry is up at 4.3 for 2+ SOT which looks big.

The Frenchman is very much playing the centre-forward role – he’s rarely heading out wide and the heat maps will show you he very much plays on the principle of staying between the posts and being in the right positions to get threatening efforts on goal when the ball comes his way.

That approach has led to him having multiple shots on target in six of his 11 games this season – only Erling Haaland has had more SOT in this season’s Premier League.

This bet has already landed in away games at Bournemouth and Hull – both of those sides have conceded fewer SOT than Newcastle. Indeed, only three teams have conceded more, so far, than the Magpies.

This looks a great way of getting with Everton’s biggest goal threat.
