Andy Schooler landed two winners on Matchday 1 of the Champions League. Now he’s back with his best bets for the second round of fixtures, including Manchester City’s heavyweight clash with Paris Saint-Germain.
From a potential home upset in Azerbaijan to a cards angle in Spain and goalscorer opportunities in two of the week’s biggest games, Andy examines where the value might lie in Champions League Matchday 2.
Champions League Matchday 2 betting tips
Sabah v Slavia Prague (Tuesday, 17:45)
Sabah were well beaten at Old Trafford in their Champions League ‘proper’ debut but too much weight may have been placed on that result when pricing this one up.
They won all four home games in qualifying, putting four past Danes Aarhus and hitting five against Hapoel Be’er Sheva.
It’s a basic comparison to make but it’s worth remembering that fellow Azerbaijan side Qarabag were one of the surprise packages of last season’s league phase. And Sabah are already ahead of them in their domestic league this term, having taken 16 points from a possible 18.
Slavia are also unbeaten back in Czechia but European football has proved problematic for some time. They are now winless in 16, while away from home they’ve lost six of their last seven and scored just once in that run.
Maybe Sabah aren’t that great but it’s still hard to take odds-on about the visitors given those stats. I’d much prefer to take a chance on the hosts at north of 2/1.
For the record, a home win to nil is at 5.6.

Villarreal v Napoli (Tuesday, 20:00)
Card punters’ pal Daniel Siebert takes charge of this one and that’s worth noting.
The German’s card count tends to rise significantly outside of his homeland and he’s now shown at least five cards in 11 of his last 17 UEFA club competition matches. He also delivered eight in Italy v Belgium during the recent international window.
This looks a fixture which should be competitive, too, and so it could well pay to go over the 4.5 card line set by the layers here.
It’s also worth considering getting with the visitors.
It’s been a poor start to the season for Villarreal, who have won two and lost four of their opening eight games in La Liga, conceding 13 goals in the process. They also lost their opening match in this competition – 3-2 at Borussia Dortmund – meaning they’ve now lost eight of nine in the UCL over the past 13 months.

Galatasaray v Barcelona (Tuesday, 20:00)
Barcelona have been rampaging past all-comers in the early weeks of the campaign and they’ve already scored 39 goals in nine games. They’ve notched at least three in eight of those matches.
Admittedly, Barca have been hit by an injury blow to top scorer Raphinha but that didn’t stop them hitting three more at the weekend and his absence could open up a new angle for punters.
Gabriel Jesus, who was among the scorers at Getafe on Saturday in what was his first start for his new club, is expected to start as the centre forward here and he’ll likely have some serious supply lines with Anthony Gordon and Lamine Yamal either side of him. They’ve combined for 12 assists so far.
The former Arsenal striker has scored three times in just 123 minutes in a Barca shirt – one every 41 minutes if you want me to do the maths – and I think he has a great chance of adding another here at close to even money.

Manchester City v Paris Saint-Germain (Wednesday, 20:00)
This is undoubtedly the biggest game of the week with two of the title favourites going head-to-head.
Fair play to City for returning from their trip to Anfield with a 3-0 win on Sunday, although it is worth remembering that Liverpool were probably the better side until they had Ryan Gravenberch dismissed.
While City retain their 100% record, PSG aren’t really into their stride yet, having won only three of six so far in Ligue 1. They currently sit sixth.
Perhaps the biggest concern, given who they are facing here, is the fact they’ve managed to keep just one clean sheet in their nine matches this season.
That immediately brings Erling Haaland into play, although he is, once again, odds-on to score. This time it’s against the European champions.
1.8 isn’t a bad price but perhaps better value in the anytime scorer market lies in siding with the in-form Rayan Cherki.
After a wonderful goal at Anfield, the Frenchman now has five goals in his seven starts this season. He’s 3.5 for another here which seems perfectly fair for a player whose confidence is flowing right now.
One other thing worth noting here is the creation City have had down the left so far in 2026/27.
Josko Gvardiol, Rayan Ait-Nouri and Nico O’Reilly have a combined seven assists between them so it may well be worth checking which of them starts at left-back in this game.
