Andy Schooler landed another two winners in midweek, including one at north of 5/1 – he’s back with FA Cup Betting Tips ahead of this weekend’s 5th Round.
Andy Schooler’s 5th Round FA Cup Betting Tips
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, team news is vital on FA Cup weekend – but also difficult to predict. Many of the last 16 have arguably more pressing issues in their league campaign and Leeds are one such example – they are just three points outside the relegation zone in the top flight heading into this game, following a run of one win in eight in all competitions (excluding penalty shoot-outs).
FA Cup Betting Tips: Norwich v Leeds (Sun, 1630)
Making several changes would therefore be no surprise. That’s certainly been Daniel Farke’s approach so far – he made eight in round three and six in round four. Star men Joe Rodon, Anton Stach and Dominic Calvert-Lewin have yet to start in the competition. On the other hand, Norwich look to have little to play for in the Championship, largely thanks to the tremendous job being done by November managerial appointment, Philippe Clement.
He’s steered the Canaries well above the relegation zone and they come into this game having won nine of their last 11. They seem to have little reason for mass rotation. Anis Ben Slimane has been firing with five goals in his last 10 games. He was tempting as a goalscorer pick (5.6 anytime) but I’m enthused by Norwich’s win price which is even higher and am happy to take a chance on the in-form side landing the upset.
FA Cup Betting Tips: Wolves v Liverpool
As I’ve already suggested, I’m wary of player bets in this competition given the potential for regulars to be sat on the bench come kick-off. However, I have to take a chance with our goalscorer selection and will do so by siding with someone who may well be due a start if team changes are to be made.
Rodrigo Gomes has been an effective substitute for Wolves in recent weeks and he’s now scored three times in his nine appearances in 2026, mainly off the bench. Since the turn of the year, he’s averaging a goal every 100 minutes on the pitch. With a Champions League return to Istanbul to follow on Tuesday, Liverpool look sure to make changes and won’t be fielding their strongest side. That gives in-form Wolves another good chance – remember they’ve held Arsenal and beaten both Aston Villa and Liverpool (in the league) in the past 10 days. Gomes scored in that league meeting and, at 7.5, looks a big price to do so again.
FA Cup Betting Tips: Newcastle v Man City
Not really wanting to get involved with individuals too much for the reasons already outlined, I’m turning to a team for this weekend’s props pick. The bet in question is Newcastle to score over 1.5 goals. This is something they’ve managed in 18 of their last 20 games in all competitions at St James’ Park. They’ve also done it in six of their least eight home league meetings with City with some memorable, open games having taken place over that period.
Admittedly, one of the two ‘misses’ in that first stat came against City, who won here 2-0 in the League Cup, but Pep Guardiola’s men looked fragile against the counter-attack once again on Wednesday when Nottingham Forest claimed a 2-2 draw at the Etihad. Both sides will make changes ahead of looming Champions League ties but with Newcastle buzzing after their victory over Manchester United, I do think this is a bet with potential.
