Europa Conference League Semi-Finals

Europa Conference League Semi-Finals Second-Leg Tips

The finalists for this season’s Europa Conference League will be determined this week as the two Europa Conference League semi-finals come to a close, with there still being plenty of life left in both ties.

Club Brugge welcome last season’s runners-up Fiorentina for the second leg of the Europa Conference League semi-finals on Wednesday evening (5.45pm BST), with the Belgian side 3-2 down following their defeat in Florence last week.

Thursday will then give the last remaining English side in European competition, Aston Villa, the opportunity to make amends for their surprise 4-2 home defeat to Olympiacos last Thursday as they head to Piraeus for a clash with the Greek giants, with kick-off scheduled for 8pm BST.

– Olympiacos to beat Aston Villa @ 3.05

Europa Conference League Semi-Finals: Club Brugge vs Fiorentina

Fiorentina dominated proceedings in last week’s first leg, registering a mammoth 31 shots in their 3-2 victory, and while Raphael Onyedika’s red card definitely didn’t help matters for Club Brugge, the Belgian outfit were under the cosh long before that 61st-minute sending off.

They should be a bit tighter at the back on their own patch, where they have won six games on the spin with four of those victories coming to nil, but their desire to push on and close their one-goal deficit could leave them exposed against La Viola, who have netted nine times in their last three matches.

Ten of Club Brugge’s 15 matches in this competition have gone over 2.5 goals, while the same bet has landed in four of their last five across all competitions, as well as in Fiorentina’s last four games.

The hosts are free-scoring at home, scoring 17 goals in their six-match winning run at the Jan Breydel Stadium, and given La Viola themselves are in fine form in front of goal, it promises to be another clash full of net-bulging action in Bruges.

Europa Conference League Semi-Finals: Olympiacos vs Aston Villa

Olympiacos were, to many at least, shock 4-2 winners at Villa Park but given they have beaten the likes of Arsenal, West Ham and Manchester United over the years, maybe the Greek outfit simply have a taste for beating English sides.

With a two-goal lead to protect back on their own patch they could look to frustrate the Villans, but when adding the context that they have won nine of their last 11 home games, there should be some optimism at the Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium that they can seal their progression with another victory.

Aston Villa have won only one of their last six away matches, losing at Lille and Brighton in their latest two road outings. The latter of those defeats was perhaps the most damning as they could muster up only two shots at the AmEx Stadium against an out-of-form Seagulls side.

Despite Unai Emery’s immense European pedigree, this could prove to be one bridge too far for the Spanish manager and his side.
