After two winners from three bets in last week’s first legs football expert Andy Schooler is back with more Champions League Tips ahead of the second leg. Read his exclusive tips each and every week with kwiff.
Huge Champions League Tips: March 17th 2026
The Quadruple remains on for Arsenal but could this be the night that quest ends? Leverkusen led for much of the first leg and only a controversial penalty earned Arsenal their draw last week. Back on home soil, the theory that makes the hosts 1.24 shots says the Gunners will now ease to victory but this is a Leverkusen side which has lost just one of their last 14 games.
Champions League Tips: Arsenal v Bayer Leverkusen
They have also already won away at Manchester City, Benfica and Olympiakos in this competition this season. In each of those matches, they kept a clean sheet. Boss Kasper Hjulmand made Denmark teak tough to beat during his time in charge there and now he’s having a similar impact with his new club. With the likes of Patrik Schick in their ranks – one of several who remain from the famous 23/24 campaign which saw them lose just one game – they do have the quality to threaten Arsenal.
Of course, this could all go horribly wrong – the Gunners have more often than not found a way to win this season – but they’ve often been unconvincing in doing so, Saturday’s clash with Everton being a case in point. I think the Germans can cover the handicap here – they can afford to lose by a single goal and still land the bet – while I can’t resist a small punt on them causing a big shock.
Champions League Tips: Liverpool v Galatasaray
If Arsenal haven’t convinced, then Liverpool have been frankly fragile and I would not rule out Gala toppling them here. Even a fanbase renowned for their loyalty appear to be getting fed up with some of Arne Slot’s tactics and now the manager must come up with a plan to turn around a one-goal deficit.
Playing Dominik Szoboszlai in defence has been among the most controversial decisions and I do wonder if the Reds – players and famous Anfield crowd – will be heading into this one with the pressure weighing heavily on their shoulders. And, as they showed last week, Gala have the players to trouble them.
Prime among them is centre forward Victor Osimhen and if the Turks are to cause an upset here, he will surely have a big part to play. The Nigerian managed six shots in last week’s first leg and will be the main target up front. Liverpool are without a clean sheet in their last five games so I’m ready to back Osimhen to find the net in this one.
Champions League Tips: Tottenham v Atletico
I’ve mentioned referee Daniel Siebert on these pages already this season – the German is well known for his card-laden games in this competition. He’s now shown at least four cards in nine of his last 10 UEFA club appointments. Looking longer term, it’s occurred in 42 of his last 56, while he’s hit the 5+ mark in 18 of his last 32.
Over 4.5 cards is odds-against here which is tempting, although I’m a little concerned by Atleti’s wide margin of victory in the first leg – if they score first here, this one looks over, and competitive fixtures are usually better for card counts. I’m therefore going to look for a bigger price in the player-card market and go with Micky van de Ven. He’s received 11 cards in 36 appearances so far this season, including three in seven in the Champions League.
Throw in the official and the fact that van de Ven will be carrying the defence in the likely absence of Cristian Romero, and it’s not hard to see him entering the notebook. Sadly, the big value has gone since I began writing this piece but I’ll still put him up at 3.75.
