Matchday 4 of the 2026/27 Champions League produced two enormous away wins, with Paris Saint-Germain hammering Villarreal 6-0 on Tuesday, before Como smashed Lens 9-1 just 24 hours later. But where do those results rank among the biggest away wins in UEFA Champions League history?
Como’s 9-1 dismantling of Lens now stands alone at the top of the list of biggest Champions League away wins, having beaten the previous record, which had been shared by Marseille, Shakhtar Donetsk and Liverpool.
Marseille thrashed MSK Zilina 7-0 in Slovakia in 2010 to become the first team to win a Champions League away game by a margin of seven goals. Shakhtar Donetsk then won away at BATE Borisov by the same scoreline in 2014, before Liverpool repeated the feat against NK Maribor in 2017.

Cesc Fabregas continues to make history with Como
Cesc Fabregas has enjoyed a remarkable rise as Como manager, but even he could hardly have expected his side to make Champions League history in such spectacular fashion.
Playing in Europe’s elite club competition for the first time this season, the Italian outfit stunned Lens with a 9-1 victory in France on Wednesday, 4 November.
The record-breaking result followed convincing 4-1 home wins over RB Leipzig and Manchester United, although Como’s first away game at this level had ended in a 3-2 defeat to Feyenoord.
Tasos Douvikas led the charge against Lens with a hat-trick, while Nico Paz, Lucas Da Cunha, Marc-Oliver Kempf, Mattia Liberali, Martin Baturina and Matteo Papaccioli also found the net.
Como’s eight-goal winning margin is the biggest ever recorded by an away team in the Champions League.
It also equals the competition’s overall record, previously achieved by Liverpool in an 8-0 home win over Besiktas in 2007 and Real Madrid against Malmo by the same scoreline in 2015.
Liverpool feature twice among Champions League’s biggest away wins
Liverpool are the only English club to have won a Champions League away game by seven goals.
Jurgen Klopp’s side achieved that feat in October 2017, when they thrashed Slovenian champions Maribor 7-0.
Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino both scored twice, while Philippe Coutinho, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Trent Alexander-Arnold completed the rout.
Five years later, Liverpool delivered another memorable European performance, this time beating Rangers 7-1 at Ibrox.
The Scottish side actually took the lead through Scott Arfield, but Liverpool responded emphatically.
Firmino scored twice before Darwin Nunez added a third, while Salah came off the bench to complete a remarkable six-minute hat-trick. Harvey Elliott rounded off the scoring.
Arsenal hit seven in Eindhoven
Arsenal joined the list of Champions League’s biggest away winners in March 2025, when they demolished PSV Eindhoven 7-1 in the first leg of their round-of-16 tie.
Despite arriving in the Netherlands with several attacking injury problems, Mikel Arteta’s side produced a ruthless display.
Jurrien Timber, Ethan Nwaneri and Mikel Merino all scored in the first half, before Martin Odegaard struck twice after the break.
Leandro Trossard and Riccardo Calafiori also got on the scoresheet as Arsenal became the first team to score seven goals away from home in a Champions League knockout match.
The result effectively settled the tie before the return leg in London, which finished 2-2.
