The action rolls on at Goodwood 2024 on Wednesday and there’s a cracking seven-race card to get stuck into. The feature race is the Sussex Stakes in which Rosallion was due to bid to land a third Group 1 race on the spin. However, a respiratory infection has ruled him out and blown the contest wide open. We’ve picked out seven selections with analysis for Wednesday’s card at Goodwood including a couple of value picks.
Goodwood 2024 – Lord of Love (1.50)
A competitive middle distance handicap to kick off the card and Lord Of Love should give a good account in his bid for a hat-trick. He did well from an unpromising position at Newmarket last time out and a 4lb rise for that success looks on the lenient side.
Goodwood 2024- Raqiya (2.25)
A step up in trip could be key for Raqiya who took her form to a new level in Listed company at Salisbury on her return and shaped like seven furlongs would be ideal when a creditable sixth in Group company on the Knavesmire since. A return to quicker ground may also suit and with a low-ish draw to work with in stall six, she ought to give a good account.
Goodwood 2024 – Vingegaard (3.00)
A high draw is often a benefit on the straight track at Goodwood and Vingegaard in stall 16 should remain competitive up in class. He followed up a respectable effort at Royal Ascot with a narrow defeat in the Super Sprint at Newbury when just caught close to home and the speed he showed that day should hold him in good stead here.
Goodwood 2024 – Henry Longfellow (3.35)
Now there is no Rosallion in the line-up, it paves the way for Henry Longfellow after a massive performance when narrowly denied by Rosallion at Royal Ascot. Aidan O’Brien’s colt showed that his future might be on quicker ground when beaten just a neck at Ascot and this easier finish should play to his strengths, particularly over this trip in which front runners can be hard to peg back.
Goodwood 2024 – Elladonna (4.10)
Elladonna seems to have really found her feet over ten furlongs in her last couple of starts and she could be hard to pass in her hat-trick bid. The filly only has a 3lb rise to cope with her for her latest success and this is one of the less competitive handicaps of the week.
Goodwood 2024 – Coto de Caza (4.45)
Coto De Caza has obvious claims in the penultimate race on the card. She showed plenty of ability on debut when only beaten a neck and she confirmed the promise shown that day when bolting up at Beverley since. A return to quicker ground should be fine and she’s the one to beat.
Goodwood 2024 – Billyjoh (5.20)
A tough puzzle to solve in the finale but Billyjoh has kept some smart company this season. He chased home a very well treated and well backed rival at Royal Ascot and it’s worth putting a line through his seven furlong run at Ascot on Saturday when it turned out he was drawn on the wrong side.
