Flat racing superstar jockey Hector Crouch is back with his latest Haydock Preview, on the back of his upcoming second day in the North-West.
Hector’s Haydock Preview: September 25th 2026
It’s been a real challenge up here with readers of this Haydock Preview likely puzzled by the times of Friday’s racing, with the official going being described as ‘Good-to-soft and soft in places’. The ground was bottomless on Friday with Haydock soft being softer than the likes of Newbury, York and Ascot etc.
Horses that really like to get their toe in should benefit on Saturday, which hopefully bodes well for the Highclere horse Centigrade (1.35) who drops back in grade for the 6f Handicap.
He ran a great race when sixth in a competitive handicap at York’s Ebor meeting, before disappointing in listed company last time out at Sandown. He’s a free-going sort who has a great chance here if is able to settle. I don’t think the ground will inconvenience him moreso than the others, and a revised mark of 100 looks fair.
Hector’s Haydock Preview: Angel Gabrial (3.15)
He bolted-up last time out at Windsor by keeping things very simple from the front, and looking to appreciate the change of tactics and the much softer ground. He will relish conditions at Haydock and given the success he had from the front last time out I see no reason why to change it here. A 4lb rise for that Windsor success seems fair and he has a lot in his favour. Drawn 13 of 14, hopefully we get out sharpish and don’t see another rival.
Hector’s Haydock Preview: Hands to Yourself (4.35)
Hands to Yourself looked a really nice sort when second on debut behind a very well-backed winner of Karl Burke’s and should improve for that run. He stayed on to make late progress that day, and will undoubtedly come on plenty, having learned a lot. Next year will be the making of him over a mile and a half but he should be well able to win a race of this calibre first.
Hector’s Haydock Preview: Gallivanting (5.10)
I don’t know a lot about Gallivanting but he looked good when scoring at Goodwood, when landing a bit of a touch that day. You can probably put a line through that Salisbury run as he never looked to be going. He’s another that should handle conditions and probably stay. Fingers crossed he goes well.
