Dave Massey is back with tips from Sunny South Wales ahead of Welsh National Day 2025, with exclusive tips for kwiff readers. Check out below his tips for this weekend’s tips at Kempton and Chepstow.
Welsh National Day Tips: December 27th 2025
Welsh National Tips: Della Cassa Lunga (Kempton, 1.20)
Della Casa Lunga (1.20) looks like she’s been teed up to a nicety for a repeat victory in this, a race she won from the same mark last year. After badly needing her first start of the season at Bangor, with heavy ground hardly in her favour there either, she improved plenty to run this over this C&D last time out, outpaced turning for home but staying on again in strong fashion after the last to close the leaders down. An extra three furlongs here can only be in her favour, and she has a lot going for her.
Welsh National Day 2025: Heads or Harps (Chepstow, 1.05)
Heads Or Harps (1.05) bumped into a Gordon Elliott improve in the shape of Truckers Cruising at Ayr last time out, but shaped very encouragingly in finishing a six-length second and gave notice his turn probably wasn’t far away again. For all he was tried at further last season, a well-run two miles seems to be what he wants, with two or three potential pacemakers in the field. The track should suit, and he can get on top late.
Welsh National 2025: Dom of Mary (Chepstow, 2.50)
It didn’t take James Owen long to unlock a bit of improvement out of Dom Of Mary (2.50), the soon-to-be veteran successful at Newcastle last time out, and given the exploits of second-home Zertakt, a winner at Cheltenham from a 2lb higher mark next time out, the 4lb rise the handicapper gave him looks pretty generous. Marathon tests suit him well, and he goes on pretty much most ground; a lot in his favour today, and he looks cracking each-way value.
Welsh National Tips 2025: Miralgo (Leicester, 3.07)
The one to be with here is Georgina Nicholls’s Miralago (3.07), who has probably needed both starts for his new yard after being off since January, but shaped well at Haydock last time out, third to David’s Well and the 3lb drop form the handicapper for that looks very generous given how the form has worked out, the winner going in again at Cheltenham since, and then the second and fourth finishing 1-2 back at Haydock last week, the pair separated by just half a length.
