Ross Burdon Racing: Huge Halloween Update 2025

After enduring a pretty rough week last week, this week has been much more positive for the team. We started the week with two runners on Monday, Ernie’s Valentine at Lingfield and new recruit Night Arc at Wolverhampton. Ernie was bidding to follow up his win earlier in the month under apprentice Phoebe Edwards, who kept the ride, in the seven furlong contest at a track where he has very good form.

Dropping back in trip was always going to be a test for a horse that looks like he wants at least a mile these days and so it proved, with Ernie being caught wide around the home bend before staying on strongly and only going down 3/4 of a length to finish third.

Ross Burdon Racing: Night Arc Success

Things were much more straightforward at Wolverhampton for Night Arc, making his stable debut Night Arc travelled strongly thoughout the race before staying on well all the way to the line and coming away a comfortable winner under Alexandra Egan for owners the Unlucky Rovers.

Both horses have come out of their races in great order and will most likely run again next week, Night Arc, who escapes a penalty for winning an apprentice race, will likely head to Lingfield on Tuesday in a bid for a quick double and Ernie’s Valentine could go to Wolverhampton, stepping back up to a mile, before the short winter flat racing break starts.

Ross Burdon Racing: Mesaafi

On Wednesday Mesaafi ran at Kempton in a London Sprint Series qualifier. Mesaafi’s bad luck with the stalls continued, as for the first time in four runs we were drawn well in stall one, but, this time, Mesaafi anticipated the start and jumped forward befoire the gates opened, banging his head on the front of the gates and missing the break when they did open.

He actually ran a huge race, having missed the kick and being forced sit last of the field and challenge much later than ideal, he finished with real gusto to claim third place and the race data showed that he actually clocked the fastest time in the field. Mesaafi will have a short break now before being brought back with the Timeform Sprint Series Final in mind, in late December.

Ross Burdon Racing: Crest of Light

As well as Tuesdays runners next week, we will also run Crest of Light at Wolverhampton on Monday and High Point at Nottingham on Wednesday. Crest of Light was due to run this Monday, but we decided to wait an extra week with him to try and ensure we ran in the right race for the horse.

He’s in very good form at home and I hope he can show that on the track for his owners Crest Racing who have been very supportive to us since we started in April. High Point will step up to two miles at Nottingham, something Silvestre de Sousa insisted was the right move after his win at Haydock in September. Unfortunately SDS is already away for the winter in Dubai, so we will need to find High Point a new jockey, which is a shame as Silvestre had developed a good relationship with the horse.

Ross Burdon Racing: Horses in Training Sales

This week in Newmarket was the Horses in Training sales, an opportunity for us to try and source some new recruits for the yard and to attract new owners as well. As of writing this we have had a successful sale, with Friday still to go, picking up two new horses as well as buying Waistcoat back in the ring from his previous owners. I was very keen to keep Waistcoat, he had quickly become a yard favourite in his time with us and had performed well, winning once and placing three times for us. He will be a handy horse for the yard and I’m sure he hasn’t reached his ceiling yet either.
